Markosek secures $521,000 grant for outdoor recreation space in Monroeville

MONROEVILLE, Jan. 12 – A major $521,000 state grant will help Monroeville acquire land for future recreational space, state Rep. Brandon Markosek, D-Allegheny, announced today. The Allegheny Land Trust received the funding to put towards a payment for 96 acres of land within the municipality of Monroeville that can be used for open space and passive recreation. “As our communities grow, it’s important to preserve outdoor spaces that can grow along with them,” Markosek said. “I’m pleased to see an investment from the state for an area where folks in Monroeville can go to enjoy the great outdoors.” The state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources administered the grant through its Community Conservation Partnerships Program . The special fall grant round focused on underserved communities and on supporting the outdoor recreation sector, closing trail gaps, and planting trees along streams and communities. Read more

Markosek: East Pittsburgh Borough awarded additional $500,000 grant

McKEESPORT, Nov. 21 – East Pittsburgh Borough will receive an additional $500,000 in Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grants for the construction of a new municipal facility, state Rep. Brandon Markosek, D-Allegheny, announced today. The funding will be used to demolish the old gymnasium facility and construct the municipal facility, which will be more centrally located to a majority of residents in the borough. The project will also allow all borough services to be located in the same building and move the public works department closer to the salt and construction storage area. “This new municipal facility will not only be more accessible to many folks who live in East Pittsburgh, but it will also help to simplify borough communications and streamline its operations,” Markosek said. “Last month, the project secured a $500,000 grant, which brings the total amount of funding to $1 million. I’d like to thank everyone involved in supporting East Pittsburgh Borough’s vision for a space that will help it better serve those who live in the community.” The funds were awarded through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program , a commonwealth grant program overseen by the Office of the Budget to assist with regional cultural, economic, civic and historical projects that improve a community’s economic growth by creating jobs and opportunities. Markosek: Six projects awarded $450,000 in state investments

MONROEVILLE, Nov. 15 – State Rep. Brandon Markosek, D-Allegheny, announced today that the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Financing Authority selected several local projects to receive $450,000 in state funding. The following funding amounts were awarded: $200,000 for Turtle Creek Valley Council of Governments to address the demolition of several structures in Pitcairn and Wall, playground renovations in Turtle Creek, and street reconstruction in Wilmerding. $150,000 to revitalize the Crestas Terrace Community Center in North Versailles Township. The project includes demolition, roofing, flooring, HVAC and electrical work, plumbing and exterior improvements. $100,000 to the Monroeville Baseball and Softball Association for improvements to the infrastructure at Monroeville Community Park West baseball and softball complex. The upgrades include replacing field turf, lighting and safety netting, and the installation of scoreboards and batting cages. “These projects will provide many benefits to their respective communities, from tearing down buildings in disrepair to rehabilitating outdated parks and places to play,” Markosek said. “I’m very pleased to see the investment to help restore the Crestas Terrace Community Center so it can return to being a local resource and gathering spot for the neighborhood and future generations.” The Allegheny County Gaming Economic Development Tourism Fund Read more

 

Markosek: $250,000 state grant a home run for Monroeville Baseball & Softball Association

MONROEVILLE, Oct. 27 – State Rep. Brandon Markosek, D-Allegheny, announced today a $250,000 grant for the Monroeville Baseball & Softball Association. Markosek said the funding will help the MBSA improve the infrastructure, facilities and resources at Monroeville Community Park West Baseball and Softball Complex. The planned improvements include replacing the field’s turf, safety netting and fencing, equipment and startup costs to install scoreboards and batting cages. “MBSA has been growing the love for the sports of baseball and softball while also teaching the value of good sportsmanship to young athletes,” Markosek said. “Securing this funding will give young men and women quality tools to improve their skills and talents at great facilities. MONROEVILLE, Oct. 26 – State Rep. Brandon Markosek, D-Allegheny, announced Redevelopment Assistance Capital grants totaling $3.54 million were awarded to three local projects. “I’m proud to have helped secure funding for projects that are committed to improving the quality of life and economic opportunities in the communities they serve,” Markosek said. “These investments will have a positive and long-lasting impact, and I want to thank everyone involved in helping make them happen.” The following projects received funding: $2.046 million for renovations and improvements to Jewish Community Center’s Monroeville Family Park facility. The project includes renovations to its aquatics center, shaded play areas, construction of a new indoor building with classroom space and a kitchen and dining area to facilitate meal preparation and dining needs during the summer. $1 million for the Allegheny Petroleum Expansion in Wilmerding Borough. The overall proposed project involves the purchase of the company's existing leased building and renovations to improve the building's structure and manufacturing capabilities. $500,000 to East Pittsburgh Borough to demolish the old gymnasium facility and construct the East Pittsburgh Municipal Facility, which would be more centrally located to most residents. Markosek: Nearly $122,000 in state funding for Pitcairn sports complex

MONROEVILLE, Sept. 20 – Pitcairn Borough will receive $121,931 in state funding to update and expand its sports complex facilities, state Rep. Brandon Markosek, D-Allegheny, announced today. The project will construct additional parking areas near the trail and basketball courts, an access road through the complex and convert part of the existing gravel and impervious surfaces into lawn or planting areas. “The sports complex has provided recreational opportunities for many residents in the community,” Markosek said. “The funding for this project will allow more people to access the complex. I’m encouraged to see that the grant will also add some green spaces to the area.” The Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency of the state Department of Community and Economic Development, administered the funding from its Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program. Markosek: Monroeville Senior Center awarded $24,000 to replace flooring

MONROEVILLE, Sept. 19 – A $24,000 grant will help the Monroeville Senior Center replace the flooring in its fitness center, state Rep. Brandon Markosek announced today. Markosek, D-Allegheny, said the funding for this project will cover the cost to remove the current carpet flooring in the Senior Center’s fitness area and install athletic rubber flooring. “The new fitness center flooring will help the Senior Center meet COVID cleaning standards and allow it to disinfect the floors on a daily basis,” Markosek said. “I’m pleased to assist the Senior Center in securing funding for this project, which will help to protect the health of Monroeville and Pitcairn residents using the facility.” The grant was administered by the state Department of Community and Economic Development. Markosek introduces bill to give more veterans access to state programs

HARRISBURG, June 30 – State Rep. Brandon Markosek, D-Allegheny, has authored a bill to ensure those who fought on behalf of the commonwealth and the country can take advantage of state programs that their disability benefits may push them out of. “During these challenging times when inflation is driving up prices,” Markosek said, “I feel it is our responsibility to do all we can to care for our veterans, who have bravely put their lives on the line to defend our nation and our freedom.” Currently a veteran's disability benefits are considered income for several state senior citizen programs. Markosek's bill would exempt those disability benefits from being counted as income for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program, the PACE/PACENET pharmaceutical drug assistance program funded by lottery proceeds, and the reduced vehicle registration fee program. Nearly 800,000 veterans live in Pennsylvania, and approximately 300,000 of them served during wartime. Additionally, three-quarters of veterans living in the state are older than 55. The bill (H.B. 2708) has been referred to the Pennsylvania House Finance Committee for review. Read more

Markosek announces $42,000 for Pitcairn Borough Police Department

MONROEVILLE, March 15 – The Pitcairn Borough Police Department secured a $42,000 grant to purchase a new police patrol vehicle, announced state Rep. Brandon Markosek, D-Allegheny, announced nine fire and EMS companies in the 25 th Legislative District were awarded $116,350 in grants. “We often take for granted that our first responders will be there when we need them most, but fire and EMS companies need our support so they can continue to answer the call,” Markosek said. “Constant challenges from the pandemic have put an extra strain on these heroes and their financial operations, which is why this funding is essential for them to continue extending life-saving services to our communities.” The grants come from the Fire Company and Emergency Medical Service Grant Program, which is administered by the Office of the State Fire Commissioner.
