Markosek: Over $900,000 in grants for conservation and recreation projects

MONROEVILLE, Nov. 12 – State Rep. Brandon Markosek, D-Allegheny, today announced more than $900,000 in Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Community Conservation Partnerships Program grants for projects in the 25th Legislative District that will enhance and conserve recreational spaces.

“These grants represent our commitment to enhancing and protecting our district's natural and recreational spaces,” Markosek said. “From developing a conservation plan for the Youghiogheny River to improving recreational facilities in Pitcairn and supporting Pittsburgh Conservation Corps' workforce development, these projects will benefit our communities, support the local economy, and provide lasting green spaces for future generations.”

The grants approved would allocate:

  • $45,600 to prepare a Rivers Conservation Plan for the Youghiogheny River from Connellsville, Fayette County to McKeesport, Allegheny County.
  • $255,100 to Pitcairn Borough for the development of the Sports Complex, including the construction of a comfort station, pickleball courts, pedestrian walkway, internal loop trail, access drive and parking area. The project will also include ADA access, landscaping, project sign and other site improvements.
  • $600,000 to Pittsburgh Conservation Corps for the coordination and funding of an Urban Wood Reuse Project and Urban and Community Forestry workforce development program.

The Community Conservation Partnerships Program, also known as C2P2, assists local governments and organizations with funding for projects related to parks, recreation and conservation. C2P2 programs are linked with other DCNR efforts to conserve historic resources, protect water quality, enhance tourism, improve physical and mental health, and foster community development.
