Markosek appointed to serve as majority chair of Pa. House Housing and Community Development Committee

HARRISBURG, Jan. 7 – Rep. Brandon Markosek, D-Allegheny, announced today that he has been appointed to serve as majority chair for the House Housing and Community Development Committee for the 2025-26 legislative session.

“I am honored to have been chosen to lead a committee whose work impacts people across every ZIP code, regardless of where they live,” Markosek said. “Affordable housing, strong infrastructure, and vibrant communities are fundamental to ensuring everyone has the opportunity to thrive. I’m excited to collaborate with my colleagues to champion policies that address these priorities and make a real difference for Pennsylvanians.”

The Housing and Community Development Committee reviews legislation impacting the state’s cities and towns, focusing on issues such as housing, urban redevelopment, economic development, land use planning and zoning, growth management, infrastructure financing, and critical services like police, fire, sewage, and water.

This appointment makes Markosek the youngest majority chair of a House committee. First elected in 2019 at age 25, Markosek is now in his fourth term as state representative. He remains dedicated to advocating for the needs of Allegheny County residents and all Pennsylvanians.
