Markosek: More than $665,000 in state grants for community and economic development projects

MONROEVILLE, Jan. 28 – State Rep. Brandon Markosek, D-Allegheny, today announced more than $665,000 in state funding for local community and economic development projects in the 25^th Legislative District.

“These investments will make a difference in our communities by improving public spaces, enhancing infrastructure, and supporting economic growth,” Markosek said. “From community center upgrades to park renovations and blight removal, this funding will help ensure our neighborhoods remain vibrant and welcoming. I’m proud to help secure these grants and will continue working to bring resources back to our communities.”

Grants awarded through the Gaming Economic Development Tourism Fund are as follows:

• East McKeesport - $150,000 for Community Center improvements, including repointing, lighting and the HVAC system.
• North Versailles Township - $85,000 for Community Center improvements, including fireproofing, mold remediation, reinforcing existing walls and cleaning to prepare for steel and masonry repairs.
• Wall - $50,000 for the demolition of six structures.
• Wilmerding - $50,000 for demolition.

Markosek also highlighted two additional grants awarded through the Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program and the Watershed Restoration and Protection Program:

• Plum – $250,000 for renovations to Plum Creek Park, including a new restroom facility, parking lot paving, and ADA-compliant sidewalks.

• Plum – $80,875 for maintenance and sediment reduction at the Meadow Hill Village and Cherry Springs retention ponds.

The Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County administers GEDTF grants to facilitate economic development projects in Allegheny County.

The GTRP and WRPP grants are authorized under Act 13 of 2012 and administered by the Commonwealth Financing Authority.
