Krueger announces state grants to support sewer projects

(Aug 17, 2020)

FOLSOM, Aug. 17 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger announced today that state grants were awarded to Brookhaven and the Southwest Delaware County Municipal Authority in Aston to help with vital sewer projects. The grants, through the PA Small Water and Sewer grant program, were approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority today. “Keeping critical infrastructure, such as sanitary sewer lines, in good shape is important for the health of our communities,” said Krueger, D-Delaware. “I’m pleased that these grants were awarded to help fund necessary repairs and improvements in Brookhaven and Aston Township .” Brookhaven Borough was awarded $406,835 to help replace 580 linear feet of sanitary sewer line, in an area where a defective sanitary sewer main has resulted in chronic backup conditions. The Southwest Delaware County Municipal Authority was awarded two grants: $170,358 will help repair sewer lines at 23 locations in Aston and Chester townships. $108,795 will help replace sewer lines at 13 locations in Aston and Chester townships . Shusterman, Krueger draft bill to help Pennsylvania nonprofits survive COVID-19

(Aug 13, 2020)

HARRISBURG, Aug. 13 — State Reps. Melissa Shusterman and Leanne Krueger have introduced legislation to establish a $100 million COVID-19 Nonprofit Assistance Grant Program. Their legislation, H.B. 2739 , would allocate funds from COVID-19 restricted receipts to the Department of Community and Economic Development to fund grants to be distributed to 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations statewide. “Between shutdowns, stay-at-home-orders and businesses now operating at a limited capacity, nonprofits missed out on opportunities to host annual fundraisers that they typically depend on to stay afloat,” Shusterman said. “We need to help them survive this difficult time because many people depend on nonprofits for their own survival. Whether they’re connecting individuals in need with housing, employment opportunities, food or health services, we cannot turn our backs on those most vulnerable to the economic effects of COVID-19.” “Nonprofit organizations play such a vital role in our communities, and their work is even more critical during this health crisis,” Krueger said. “Nonprofits help connect families to resources they need during difficult times, offer us opportunities to experience arts and culture, and so much more. The pandemic has deeply impacted these organizations. Our legislation to create a grant program dedicated to nonprofits will go a long way toward helping them continue their valuable Read more

Delaware County lawmakers call for investigation into violence against Black Lives Matter supporters

(Aug 07, 2020)

HARRISBURG (August 7, 2020) – Today, a group of state lawmakers from Delaware County called for District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer to investigate violence and intimidation aimed at Black Lives Matter supporters during a march in Ridley Township on Saturday, August 1 st . State Sens. Tim Kearney and Anthony Williams as well as State Reps. Leanne Krueger, Margo Davidson, David Delloso, Brian Kirkland, and Joanna McClinton signed the letter, which details how peaceful protesters were met with violence and intimidation by a group of counter-protesters. The letter calls for Delaware County’s District Attorney to investigate the counter-protesters’ actions and the Ridley Township Police Department’s response. “I was proud to participate in the Black Lives Matter protest and stand with people of all races and all ages against systemic racism,” said Sen. Tim Kearney . “But I was disturbed by the hate and intimidation that I witnessed firsthand from counter-protesters. We are better than that. We need to make sure our community feels safe when peacefully exercising their First Amendment rights.” “I join others across our community in expressing horror that this demonstration of love and support for Black lives was met by a menacing group with a mission to taunt and intimidate peaceful protesters,” said Rep. Leanne Krueger . “Instead of actively protecting the First Amendment rights of our Read more

Krueger releases statement on violence toward BLM marchers in Ridley

(Aug 05, 2020)

RIDLEY, Aug. 5 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger, D-Delaware, released the following statement denouncing violence and intimidation aimed at Black Lives Matter supporters during a march over the weekend here. “I am in awe of our neighbors, especially the young people, who organized a peaceful march through Ridley in support of Black Lives last weekend. By all accounts — from community members with whom I have spoken and video I have seen on social media — the group marching in support of Black Lives was inclusive and peaceful. “I join others across our community in expressing horror that this demonstration of love and support for Black lives was met by a menacing group of predominantly white men, some brandishing weapons and openly intoxicated, standing outside of the Ridley Township Police Station. White men in trucks and on motorcycles were also seen driving recklessly on MacDade Boulevard, dangerously close to protesters. “Videos posted online clearly show hostile and vitriolic language hurled at our neighbors, some of whom marched with young children, and the violent act of ripping a BLM flag out of the hands of a protester. Other incidents captured on camera and by the media suggest a potentially unsafe situation for the protesters. “Instead of actively protecting the First Amendment rights of our neighbors, it appears that Ridley Police were both late to the scene and seemed to be protecting the white counter-protesters Read more

Krueger announces $1.8 million grant for Concord Road intersection improvements

(Jul 16, 2020)

HARRISBURG, July 16 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger announced that Aston Township was awarded a $1.8 million state grant to support intersection improvements along Concord Road. The grant comes through the state’s Multimodal Transportation Fund. The township will use the funding to convert two traditional intersections along a highly traveled portion of Concord Road into modern roundabouts to reduce congestion, improve air quality and enhance pedestrian mobility. “Reducing congestion is critical for the safety of drivers and others on the road, so I’m pleased to see state funding support improvements for one of the busier stretches in our district,” said Krueger, D-Delaware. “I look forward to seeing these improvements come to fruition and make it a little easier to get around our community.” Act 89 established the dedicated Multimodal Transportation Fund, which stabilizes funding for ports and rail freight, increases aviation investments, establishes dedicated funding for bicycle and pedestrian improvements, and allows targeted funding for priority investments in any mode. Krueger issues statement on Supreme Court birth control decision

(Jul 08, 2020)

HARRISBURG, July 8 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger issued the following statement on today’s U.S. Supreme Court decision allowing employers with religious or moral objections to decline to provide health care coverage for contraception: “I’m deeply disappointed in today’s decision from the Supreme Court. Contraception is health care, and employers should not be allowed to decide what medical care a woman has the right to receive. Access to health care is inextricably linked to economic mobility, and basic preventative care like birth control should not be a luxury that is only available to some. We should be reducing barriers to health care, not creating more. “Everyone deserves quality, affordable health care, and I intend to keep fighting to see that everyone has access to it. I will soon reintroduce legislation to protect and expand access to birth control in Pennsylvania. It’s time to support women and preserve their fundamental right to health care.” Read more
