WHITEHALL, May 1 – A state grant totaling $17,300 will help put computers and other remote-learning tools into the hands of students who are unable to afford them in the Whitehall-Coplay School District, announced state Rep. Jeanne McNeill, D-Lehigh. “During this pandemic, our students are learning online but not everyone can afford or has access to the technology needed for consistent and effective remote learning,” said McNeill. “These grant dollars will help ensure, regardless of their income, our children all have an equal opportunity to continue their public education from home.” The Continuity of Education and Equity Grants – administered by the state Department of Education – are designed to help provide access and inclusion for all learners by bridging the gap for students who are currently limited in their ability to participate in continuity of education. The grants may be used to purchase computer equipment, such as laptops, tablets and internet hot spots, or to provide instructional materials, such as paper lessons and coursework. Schools with the highest percentages of students lacking access to resources were given priority in receiving the grants. Read more

WHITEHALL, April 2 – In an effort to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus known as COVID-19 and to adhere to Gov. Tom Wolf’s Stay-at-Home order for the commonwealth, state Rep. Jeanne McNeill and state Sen. Lisa Boscola announced today their annual Senior Fair, scheduled for April 17, is postponed until a yet-to-be determined date. “Because Pennsylvania is under a statewide Stay-at-Home order, and since our event is so popular with seniors throughout the area, we decided it was better to postpone it rather than cancel it outright,” McNeill said. “This will give everyone the opportunity to stay home and stay safe, yet visit us later when we’ll have all of the great resources that our Senior Fair has become known for in previous years.” When the free annual event is rescheduled, it will take place at the Whitehall Mall. “Seniors are at higher risk of contracting this coronavirus, and we encourage our seniors and all Pennsylvanians to stay indoors and away from others as much as possible,” Boscola said. “We will make sure the rescheduled date of this year’s Senior Fair is adequately advertised ahead of time, so no senior misses out on the valuable information that is available through local organizations and county, state and federal agencies.” Both legislators’ offices are continuing to serve the public, with staff available in their Read more
