HARRISBURG, Oct 23 – State Rep. Brian Munroe announced a $1 million state grant for the North Wales Water Authority through the Local Share Account Statewide Program . The NWWA will use the grant to help fund its Shetland Drive water tank renovation in Warrington. Originally installed in 1974, the Shetland Drive water tank is in urgent need of reconditioning. This includes a comprehensive inspection, necessary spot repairs and a complete repainting. Without the inspection, the tank would be taken out of service until funding is available, which could lead to increased fees for customers. LSA funds will be allocated for renovation and inspection expenses. The total project cost is $1,167,436, with $167,436 already committed from the North Wales Water Authority. “Investing in the Shetland Drive water tank project is crucial for ensuring reliable water service for our community,” Munroe said. “This project not only addresses essential repairs but also safeguards public health and infrastructure. Securing state funding is vital to complete this renovation, preventing potential disruptions and additional costs for local residents.” Administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, the LSA allocates gaming revenue to support projects that improve the quality of Read more

WARMINSTER, May 28 – Legislators from both Bucks and Montgomery counties today recognized the sacrifices made by the mothers of soldiers and sailors deployed in the United States Armed Forces in a ceremony held at the Warminster VFW Post 6493 . State Reps. Brian Munroe, Nancy Guenst, Ben Sanchez and Melissa Cerrato recognized area Blue Star Mothers as May is Blue Star Mothers Month. A Blue Star Mother is any woman living in the United States who has a son or daughter (and in some cases, stepchildren) in the United States Armed Forces, or who has had a son or daughter in the U.S. Armed Forces who was honorably discharged. “As a Navy veteran, I know the difficulties and uncertainties that my family, and in particular, my mother faced while I was deployed,” Munroe said. “Families serve in their own way as they play an important part of keeping morale high and supporting our soldiers and sailors. Thank you to my mother and all the Blue Star Mothers through Pennsylvania and our nation.” “Blue Star Mothers show us what it means to support our troops with unwavering love and strength,” Guenst, an Army veteran, said. “Their sacrifice is a reminder of the heart behind our nation's defenders. HARRISBURG, March 27 – Today, a bipartisan group of state lawmakers held a news conference at the Capitol touting legislation they’ve introduced to support Pennsylvania veterans exposed to the dangerous herbicide “Agent Orange” and other toxic chemicals during their service, and make March 29 Vietnam Veterans Day in Pennsylvania . This group of lawmakers includes state Reps. Paul Takac, D-Centre; Mike Cabell, R-Luzerne; Brian Munroe, D-Bucks; Dane Watro, R-Schuylkill/Luzerne; Tarik Khan, D-Phila.; Zachary Mako, R-Northampton/Lehigh; Chris Pielli, D-Chester; and Abby Major, R-Armstrong/Westmoreland. Both bills were introduced earlier this year. “We owe all those who have served our country, especially those who have been harmed as a result of their service, not only our profound respect and gratitude but an enduring commitment to serve and support them and their families. That, of course, includes Vietnam-era veterans who were exposed to -- and at the time, unknowingly harmed by -- Agent Orange. As our understanding of the extent of the damage caused by that chemical exposure has grown and evolved, so have the programs and benefits available to those affected,” Takac said. “Since taking office, one of my areas of focus has been ensuring that veterans and their families are aware of and can more easily access all of the benefits and support available to them,” he said. WARMINSTER, Feb. 23 – State Rep. Brian Munroe introduced a bill today that would equip financial institutions and fiduciaries with the necessary tools to identify, report and prevent the financial exploitation of older adults and care dependent individuals. Munroe said the legislation is personal to him because his mother was recently defrauded even though her bank was fully aware of the transaction. “If this could happen to my mother, it can happen to anyone’s loved ones,” Munroe said. “Prior to this happening to my mother, I saw similar crimes committed countless times during my tenure as a Radnor Township police officer.” Financial exploitation is one of the most prevalent forms of elder abuse in the nation; yet it remains grossly underreported. Left unchecked, elder people remain vulnerable to the continued misuse of powers of attorney, unauthorized cash withdrawals, financial scams and check and credit card fraud. These losses are often unrecoverable, frequently resulting in the elder being forced to rely on public assistance for their most basic needs. Munroe said legal clarity will be included in the legislation to assist these financial institutions in reporting and preventing financial exploitation, as will the authority to share information with state investigators, law enforcement and other older adult protective services. HARRISBURG, Feb. 21 – Today, state lawmakers introduced legislation that would create a task force on Agent Orange -- a blend of herbicides used during the Vietnam War. Agent Orange was banned when evidence of the harmful and sometimes deadly results of exposure to it began to emerge. Those who were exposed to Agent Orange are at risk of developing cancers, neurological and psychological conditions, and other long-term effects to the skin and heart. Exposure to Agent Orange can also cause reproductive health problems and birth defects in the children of veterans, including spina bifida, hip dysplasia, and congenital heart disease. The task force would comprise several members of military organizations and members of the PA House and PA Senate to investigate and form recommendations on how best to communicate with veterans affected by Agent Orange concerning the treatment options available to them. This bipartisan legislation was introduced by state Reps. Paul Takac, D-Centre; Mike Cabell, R-Luzerne; Brian Munroe, D-Bucks; Dane Watro, R-Schuylkill/Luzerne; Tarik Khan, D-Phila.; Zachary Mako, R-Northampton/Lehigh; Chris Pielli, D-Chester; and Abby Major, R-Armstrong/Westmoreland. “We owe all those who have served our country, especially those who have been harmed as a result of their service, not only our profound respect and gratitude but an enduring commitment to serve and support them and their families.
