HARRISBURG, Oct. 23 – State Rep. Mark Rozzi, D-Berks, announced the award of several high-profile state grants for local projects that will benefit residents of the 126 th Legislative District. The grants originate from the Statewide Local Share Account, which comes from the Pennsylvania Race Horse Development and Gaming Act. The act provides for the distribution of gaming revenues through the Commonwealth Financing Authority to support projects in the public interest within Pennsylvania. They include: Central Berks Regional Police Department, vehicles, $160,000 This project intends to purchase a police patrol vehicle to be used by the school resource officer, a new position created to increase safety on school property. Also included is the purchase of a 4X4 utility vehicle to replace a failed crime scene truck which transports equipment to crime scenes and crashes. Lastly, the project will upfit both vehicles with the appropriate equipment such as identification, sirens and lights, radios, secure weapons systems and cages. Lower Alsace Township, public works equipment purchase, $72,920 The township road crew is currently using a 1990s front-end loader that has frequent repair issues and is not the ideal size for the township's projects.
