Rusnock, Schwank deliver $200K for pedestrian safety measures in Reading

READING, Feb. 24 – State Rep. Jacklyn Rusnock and Sen. Judy Schwank today announced $200,000 awarded to Reading to implement pedestrian safety improvements along Skyline Drive.

“Reading is a walkable city, and investing in infrastructure is key to keeping pedestrians safe,” Rusnock said. “Skyline Drive is a busy roadway for residents and visitors alike, so I’m proud to secure this funding to enhance safety for everyone who uses it.”

"I applaud the City of Reading for submitting a strong application and recognizing the need for improved pedestrian safety,” Schwank said. “Skyline Drive offers a tremendous view of Reading and access to the Pagoda, making it essential to enhance safety for residents and visitors."

Funding comes from the Commonwealth Financing Agency’s Multimodal Transportation Fund. The MTF provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to the residents of the commonwealth. Funds may be used for the development, rehabilitation and enhancement of transportation assets to existing communities, streetscape, lighting, sidewalk enhancement, pedestrian safety, connectivity of transportation assets and transit-oriented development.
