Maureen Madden, D-Monroe, Eddie Day Pashinski, D-Luzerne, and Mike Schlossberg, D-Lehigh, held a “ PA Needs a Just Recovery” Zoom press event to discuss the steps the Pennsylvania General Assembly needs to take to create a just recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and to heed the call for racial justice demanded by Pennsylvanians. A Just Recovery for all Pennsylvanians includes: Racial justice and police reforms. Making sure that Pennsylvanians returning to work have the resources they need to protect themselves from COVID-19. Instituting additional small business stimulus packages. Making sure schools and students have the resources, including internet access, to facilitate proper socially distant learning. Working towards providing quality housing for every Pennsylvanian. Instituting tax fairness initiatives. Pashinski, House Democrats put Pennsylvanians’ health and safety first

WILKES-BARRE, April 17 – State Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski, D-Luzerne, is calling for the state legislature to stop playing political games and to focus on policies that put the health and safety of Pennsylvanians first. “At a time when people are dying every day, while doctors, nurses and first responders are struggling to get proper PPE, our state legislature’s sole focus should be on supporting our frontline heroes and stopping this pandemic,” Pashinski said. “Instead, the Republican proposals forced through the legislature this week along party-lines would rush Pennsylvanians back to work just when the curve is beginning to flatten.” Pashinski said many of the same legislators voting to send Pennsylvanians to work in potentially dangerous working conditions without proper personal protective equipment cast those votes remotely or while wearing PPE themselves. Pashinski requests consideration for alternative COVID-19 testing site

WILKES-BARRE, April 15 – State Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski, D-Luzerne, today requested that the Pennsylvania Department of Health find an alternate location to the Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre Township for its drive-through COVID-19 testing site, which DOH has scheduled to open Sunday. “I have the honor of serving the people of the 121 st District, which includes the Wilkes-Barre Township Community,” Pashinski said. “That is why I have requested that the Department of Health and the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency meet with, and address the concerns of, our local officials before making a final determination on the location of their testing site. It is imperative that I emphasize the concerns of Wilkes-Barre Township’s officials and residents about the possibility of those being tested possibly having access to many commercial sites within a half mile of the arena. Proposed plan could allow students to attend college without financial worries

NANTICOKE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU-TV) Millions of people across the United States are swamped with student loan debt. Democratic State Representative Eddie Pashinski is trying to change that for future students.“They wouldn’t have to pay a dime until they graduate and get a job and then 2% of that salary for ten years goes back to Luzerne County to pay for their debt, interest free.” Stated Pashinski as he explained his bill to Eyewitness News. NANTICOKE, Feb. 20 – State Rep. Eddie Pashinski, D-Luzerne, hosted a House Democratic Policy Committee public hearing today on his Delayed Payment Plan legislation (H.B. 2287) at Luzerne County Community College. Pashinski was joined by fellow state legislators to discuss the issues of community college affordability, student debt, and the current and projected future skills gap in Pennsylvania. Pashinski currently has legislation to create a Delayed Payment Program , which would provide a pathway for community college students at any of Pennsylvania’s 14 state community colleges to complete their degree or certificate program in a high-need employment area and land a steady job before having to repay their tuition interest-free for up to 10 years. “Pennsylvania is facing a critical void in our workforce while the price of higher education is discouraging and preventing Pennsylvanians from pursuing a degree or certificate to fill that void,” Pashinski said. “My Delayed Payment Plan would help address the issues of student debt and the skills gap in the Pennsylvania workforce. Pashinski introduces Delayed Payment Plan for Burden Free Community College

HARRISBURG, Feb. 6 – State Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski, D-Luzerne, introduced legislation today to provide a pathway for community college students at any of Pennsylvania’s 14 state community colleges to complete their degree or certificate program and land a steady job before having to begin repaying their tuition. “Student debt is crushing Pennsylvania’s higher education students and discouraging young people from pursuing a degree that can significantly increase their ability to find a good job,” Pashinski said. “Meanwhile, well-paying jobs go unfilled across the state because we don’t have enough workers with the education needed to fill those roles. My Delayed Payment Plan would help address each of these issues, allowing our young people to improve their career prospects while filling the family-sustaining jobs of today and tomorrow.” Once established, the Delayed Payment Plan program would pay up-front for the community college education for participating PA students who attend one of 14 state community colleges, pursue a degree in a high-need career path, and agrees to stay in Pennsylvania after graduating until their tuition is repaid. The agreement would require the graduate to pay back what they owe using a minimum of 2% of their future earnings within 10 years of graduating. Anyone with an outstanding balance following those 10 years would be required to pay a below-current market interest rate of 3.5% Read more
