Steve Malagari, D-Montgomery, today announced he will remain on the House Local Government and Liquor Control committees as well as serve on the Consumer Affairs and Tourism and Recreational Development committees this legislative session. As a new member of the House Consumer Affairs Committee, Malagari said he said he looks forward to working on legislation aimed at protecting consumers’ rights. HARRISBURG, JAN. 12 – State Reps. Steve Malagari and Liz Hanbidge, both D-Montgomery, today announced that the Pennsylvania Northeastern railroad received a $483,000 grant to replace approximately 6,000 ties on its Stony Creek and Bethlehem branches. “The Pennsylvania Northeastern railroad operates throughout Montgomery, Bucks and Philadelphia counties, so it’s a major contributor to our regional economy,” Hanbidge said. “This $483,000 to help upgrade the Stony Creek and Bethlehem branches will ensure that employees can do their jobs safely and communities throughout the area can continue receiving essentials that this freight line delivers.” “Many Montgomery County residents not only depend on the Pennsylvania Northeastern railroad for income, but also for the delivery of goods like food, lumber and paper products,” Malagari said. “Ensuring the functionality of local freight lines is essential for both our local economy and the prosperity of our community.” Pennsylvania Northeastern railroad was one of 26 rail freight improvement projects to receive funding. HARRISBURG, Jan. 11 – State Rep. Steve Malagari, D-Montgomery, will introduce legislation that would help small businesses in the hospitality and entertainment industries recover from the economic impacts of COVID-19. Malagari’s bill would establish a grant program exclusively for these types of businesses. Eligible entities would include independent movie theaters, performing arts venues, restaurants, bars, taverns, catering companies and lodging accommodations. “The hospitality and entertainment industries were among the hardest hit throughout all the stages of COVID-19 mitigation measures. Many of these venues throughout the commonwealth remain completely closed down out of an abundance of caution,” Malagari said. “Once we can safely gather again, these are the places that many of us will look forward to visiting most. LANSDALE, Dec. 24 – State Rep. Steve Malagari, D-Montgomery, said projects in his legislative district that will create jobs and boost community development and services have been awarded Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grants from the state. Malagari announced funding for the following projects: Clemens Food Group in Hatfield Township was awarded $2.5 million to construct a state-of-the-art 300,700-square-foot facility to expand food processing capacity. Souderton Borough will receive $1 million to develop a new public works complex with salt storage, truck and equipment storage, and office space, plus the opportunity to lease commercial pad sites. Peter Becker Community in Franconia Township will use its $600,000 grant for a new generator, upgraded electrical systems and a connector corridor to its personal care areas. This will improve the safety, security and health of employees, residents and guests, including during pandemic mitigation efforts. “I am so pleased to announce these grants for our district,” Malagari said. “ They are the result of hard work in my first term building relationships, partnering with local communities and identifying opportunities for the continued development of the district and well-being of residents. HATFIELD, Dec. 7 – State Rep. Steve Malagari, D-Montgomery, today announced that Hatfield Township received an Automated Red Light Enforcement grant to help improve traffic safety. Information on the project includes: Hatfield Township – $300,000 to improve accessibility and safety at four existing traffic signals in alignment with a recently completed sidewalk connections plan. “These funds will help improve safety for motorists and pedestrians alike," Malagari said. "This is an investment into the overall safety of our community." Pennsylvania’s ARLE program aims to improve safety at signalized intersections by providing automated enforcement at locations where data shows red-light running has been an issue. Grant funding is supplied by fines from red light violations at 31 intersections in Philadelphia. State law specifies that projects improving safety, enhancing mobility and reducing congestion can be considered for funding. Steve Malagari, D-Montgomery, today announced that three schools throughout his legislative district received a collective $56,381 in Safe School grants from the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Grants have been awarded as follows: North Penn School District: $23,500. Souderton Area School District: $9,087. Lansdale Catholic High School: $23,794. SOUDERTON, Oct. 26 – State Rep. Steve Malagari, D-Montgomery, presented Generations of Indian Valley with a $100,000 check on Friday to go toward remodeling the facility’s community room. Malagari said that the grant will help cover redoing the community room’s floor and ceiling, as well as the addition of a dividing wall. Generations of Indian Valley’s community room has not received an update since 1989. “Generations provides a huge service to seniors in the community, and over the last year I worked with them and with my colleagues in Harrisburg to allocate funding to help them to continue their work. LANSDALE, Sept. 1 – State Rep. Steve Malagari, D-Montgomery, invites constituents to his free shred event on Saturday, Sept. 5. The shred event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon at Indian Crest Middle School, 139 Harleysville Pike, Souderton. Steve Malagari, D-Montgomery, today announced that three area school districts received grants to heighten their education services for students with special needs who may be negatively impacted by COVID-19 mitigation efforts. The following school districts received Governor’s Emergency Education Relief grants: North Penn: $151,534.55. Souderton: $79,189.33. Souderton Charter School Collaborative: $1,000. “The COVID-19 pandemic has been hard on everyone, particularly Pennsylvania’s youngest residents who have special needs,” Malagari said. “This school year will look completely different than years prior, and many students will need additional support getting acclimated to these changes. These grants will assist with a smooth, safe and comfortable start to the school year for everyone.” Grants may be used to provide enhanced synchronous (real-time) instruction to bolster remote services and supports for students with complex needs; and provide services and support to students with disabilities who experienced a loss in skills and behavior and/or a lack of progress due to the mandatory school closures. LANSDALE, Aug. 17 – State Rep. Steve Malagari, D-Montgomery, today announced more than $2 million in grants have been awarded to three communities throughout his legislative district to help upgrade water, sewer, storm sewer and flood control infrastructure projects. The funding will be distributed through two grant programs by the Commonwealth Financing Authority . Details of grant recipients and projects are follows: H2O PA grants: Franconia Sewer Authority: $590,584 to go toward the installation of approximately 8,129 linear feet of various-sized sewer main and service lines, grinder pumps, service connections, road and property restoration. Hatfield Borough: $670,227 to go toward repairing the sinkholes on West Broad Street and North Main Street and the replacement of deteriorating storm and sanitary sewer infrastructure. PA Small Water and Sewer grants: Lansdale Borough: $323,570 to upgrade the community’s existing storm sewer system to accommodate increasing stormwater runoff from a combination of existing developments, redevelopment and higher intensity storm events located along Laurel Lane.
