Hill-Evans to host event to kick off Diaper Needs Awareness Month

Entities interested in participating in drive should contact her office

HARRISBURG, Aug. 31 – State Rep. Carol Hill-Evans, D-York, will announce a new partnership for Diaper Needs Awareness Month at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 1 at Union Lutheran Church.

The Alliance of York Resource Centers for Diaper Needs Awareness, which consists of The Movement, York City Health Bureau’s Healthy Moms-Healthy Babies, Chrystal’s Place, Salem Square Connects and The Well Food Pantry, will be directly receiving this year’s collection for diaper and incontinence product needs.

“I am glad that we have organizations willing to work together to address this issue in York,” Hill-Evans said. “Communities thrive when we collaborate. We want to keep the donations localized so that they are most accessible to families within walking distance around the district. Having more recipient organizations gives us an opportunity to accept more donations.”

Each September, Pennsylvania recognizes Diaper Needs Awareness Month. In Pennsylvania, 22% of the 411,667 children under age 3 live under the federal poverty level. Another 21% of these children fall between 1-2 times the poverty level.

The alliance is seeking local businesses interested in holding an employee-based or customer-based diaper drive during the month of September to support the collection.

Any business, organization or faith-based service that wishes to collect for this September drive is welcome to attend this announcement and should reach out to jsawor@pahouse.net or 717-848-9595.
