Fleming secures $3.5 million in capital investments for the 105th district

HARRISBURG, Nov. 1 - State Rep. Justin Fleming, D-Dauphin, today announced that he secured $3,500,000 in Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grants for projects in the 105th Legislative District he serves. “I’m proud to have secured $3.5 million in RACP grants that will enhance community life in our district. Funds will be used to build out a central green in Susquehanna Township and to construct a community room accessible to various group and also used for public health education,” Fleming said. “These state grants will help improve connections in our community, offering opportunities for education and recreation for all.” The projects funded in the district are: $3,000,000 to Capital Blue Cross for renovations to the facility on Elmerton Avenue, including the construction of a multi-purpose community meeting room that would be used for public health activities and would be accessible for community groups, and the renovated cafeteria area. $500,000 to Hawthorne SPE LLC for the build-out of the central green at Susquehanna Union Green including site development, landscaping and construction of a 2,850 square foot pavilion and a utility/storage kiosk. Fleming bill for diabetes awareness headed to governor’s desk

HARRISBURG, Oct. 25 – A bill sponsored by state Rep. Justin Fleming directing Pennsylvania schools to send home information about type 1 diabetes and its warning signs passed the state House and Senate and is now headed to the governor’s desk. “The warning signs of type 1 diabetes can often go unnoticed, so knowing what to look for is literally lifesaving,” Fleming, D-Dauphin, said. “This legislation will help empower individuals with diabetes education so they can act when warning signs appear. This bill is also very personal as my daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in June 2020.” Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disorder in which the pancreas shuts down, failing to provide insulin that the body needs to regulate blood glucose. Those who have type 1 diabetes are dependent on pharmaceutically manufactured insulin for life. For many, the signs of type 1 diabetes can go unnoticed for longer periods of time resulting in a condition called diabetic ketoacidosis, or DKA, leading to serious health complications that may even be fatal. Recognizing the signs of diabetes early, along with targeted screening and monitoring, have been shown to reduce the incidence of DKA, reduce rates of hospitalization and, most importantly, save lives, Fleming said. Fleming brings home $1.69M for community improvements

Justin Fleming, D-Dauphin, today announced that he secured $1,699,995 in state funding for community improvements in the 105th District. “I’m glad I was able to secure this funding to ensure our kids’ school roof is leak proof, the life-saving Central PA Food Bank will be able to store frozen food, and to plan and design a new public safety building for the Progress Fire Company,” Fleming said. “I brought this essential taxpayer money back home to keep our kids’ school buildings in good condition, our food-insecure families fed and our community safe from fire.” The following grants are from the Statewide Local Share Account, which comes from the PA Racehorse Development and Gaming Act, which provides for the distribution of gaming revenues through the Commonwealth Financing Authority to support projects in the public interest within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. $550,000 Central Pennsylvania Food Bank The funding will help purchase and install a custom-made generator for the Central PA Food Bank Harrisburg Healthy Food Hub. Fleming applauds passage of legislation to implement evidence-based reading programs in schools: Bill heads to governor’s desk

HARRISBURG, Oct. 10 – State Rep. Justin Fleming, D-Dauphin, applauded the Senate’s unanimous final passage yesterday of S.B. 801 that mirrors his H.B. 998, which will implement evidence-based reading programs in schools to help students improve their reading proficiency and make learning in other disciplines easier. According to Fleming, Pennsylvania is amid an educational crisis with nearly half of its fourth graders reading below their grade level. The reasons are due to many factors, including inequitable educational opportunities, but the long-term impact is the same: currently, one in five American adults struggles with reading basic sentences, and as a result, find it difficult to do basic tasks like read the mail, complete tax forms, or even engage in civic duties. Senate Bill 801 will provide a tested solution to this societal dilemma by allowing school districts to pursue an evidence-based curriculum called the Science of Reading to help enhance literacy among students, particularly in grades K-4. “We know the Science of Reading works because the state of Mississippi, which once ranked 49th in the country for fourth-grade literacy, enacted this program and several years later ranked 21st,” Fleming said. National Civil War Museum awarded $26,500 grant

HARRISBURG, Sept. 23 – The National Civil War Museum has been awarded a $26,500 Cultural and Historical Support Grant by the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission (PHMC), state Rep. Justin Fleming, D-Dauphin, announced today. “The National Civil War Museum fosters awareness and understanding of this pivotal time in our nation’s history and its enduring legacy on our culture and society,” Fleming said. “I am glad that its critical work is being acknowledged and supported by this grant from the PHMC.” The National Civil War Museum is a private nonprofit corporation with a mission to serve as a national center to inspire lifelong learning of the American Civil War. HARRISBURG, July 17 – Three central Pennsylvania House Democrats said they are pleased to welcome historic federal funding for replacement of the John Harris Memorial Bridge. The Federal Highway Administration’s $500 million Large Bridge Project Grant, secured by the Shapiro administration through the Biden administration, is the largest grant in state history for a transportation project, according to Gov.
