Darisha K. Parker was elected to serve her first term in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in November 2020. As a lifetime resident of Northwest Philadelphia, she understands the issues that matter most to the people and families in the 198th Legislative District.
A proud graduate of Germantown High School's magnet program, Darisha understands a quality, public education is critical, which is why she's committed to fully funding Philadelphia public schools and connecting its students and teachers with the resources they need to succeed in a safe learning environment.
Her bachelor’s degree in communications from Bennet College provided her with the skills to improve the quality of life of her community with an emphasis on transparent communication.
As an active member of her local Town Watch, she spearheaded her own grassroots initiatives to protect her communities from violence and help victims of these senseless acts, including a lifesaving effort that led to the secure return of an abducted woman from Germantown.
Before being elected to office, Darisha partnered with many community members and advocates to support positive spaces for youth engagement which is proven to mitigate gun violence and start them on a successful path to their future.
Inspired by the passion of her predecessor, the Hon. Rosita C. Youngblood, Darisha understands both the priorities and needs of her neighbors and the legislative process, which makes her a fierce advocate as their voice in Harrisburg.
Darisha’s outspoken advocacy has been a catalyst for change. In the most profound example, she continues to champion a campaign to create Menstrual Equity in Pennsylvania.
Her unwavering commitment to helping women flourish led to Gov. Josh Shapiro’s insistence on allocating $3 million in the 2024-25 state budget for schools to provide free menstrual products in Pennsylvania public schools.
Darisha continues to spearhead this effort by spreading awareness, breaking stigmas and her using her passion to empower women.
Her other priorities include addressing environmental justice in Philadelphia by increasing healthy outdoor spaces and enhancing community and recreation centers, enacting criminal justice reforms, giving a voice to seniors, and providing affordable healthcare to all Pennsylvanians.
