Sanchez applauds $74K in safety and security grants

ABINGTON, April 14 – State Rep. Ben Sanchez, D-Montgomery, today announced that three places of worship within his legislative district received grants to strengthen their safety and security measures.

Funding, which comes from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, has been distributed as follows:

  • Temple Sinai: $25,000.
  • Abington Monthly Meeting Inc.: $24,200.
  • Lubavitch of Abington Inc.: $25,000.

“Everyone has the right to freely and openly practice their religion. It is disheartening that such security measures are needed at places of worship, but funding like this helps preserve this constitutional right and ensure everyone’s safety,” Sanchez said.

Grants may be used for initiatives including, but not limited to: safety and security planning, purchase of safety and security equipment, safety and security training, vulnerability and threat assessments, and purchase of security-related technology such as metal detectors and surveillance equipment.
