HARRISBURG, May 12 – State Rep. Jim Haddock is proud to share that Old Forge School District and Pittston City secured almost $3 million in investments to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility.
“I am always proud to fight for grant funding that strengthens public education, modernizes infrastructure, and improves pedestrian safety throughout our area. These investments will have a lasting impact on our communities, and I am incredibly grateful for the partnership and support that helped make these projects possible,” said Haddock, D-Luzerne/Lackawanna.
“Thank you to Gov. Josh Shapiro, PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll, and state Sen. Marty Flynn for their continued commitment to supporting the 118th District and investing in the future of Northeastern Pennsylvania.”
The Old Forge School District was awarded $1 million for a Pedestrian Safety and Accessibility Improvement Project surrounding the district’s K–12 campus. This funding will support the installation of ADA-compliant sidewalks and curb ramps, upgraded pedestrian lighting, stormwater management improvements, enhanced crosswalks, and traffic calming measures along West Grace Street, Railroad Street, Marion Street, and Josephine Street. These upgrades will create safer and more accessible pathways for students, families, and residents traveling to schools, parks, athletic facilities, and community events for years to come.
In addition, Pittston City was awarded almost $1.7 million to construct new pedestrian and bicycle facilities along a major state roadway. The project will include ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps and widened sidewalks, full pedestrian lighting, painted crosswalks, improved pedestrian amenities, upgraded drainage systems, and bicycle-friendly storm drains to enhance safety and accessibility for everyone using the corridor.
This week, PennDOT announced more than $74 million in Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside funding for projects across the commonwealth.
