HARRISBURG, Sept. 23 – Pennsylvania Speaker of the House Joanna McClinton, D-Phila./Delaware, announced that Yeadon and Darby boroughs in Delaware County were recently awarded more than $160,000 in state funding to improve community safety.
Darby is set to receive $125,216 and Yeadon will receive $35,000. Both grants are earmarked to support the communities’ efforts to conform with the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s NIBRS, which is the national standard for law enforcement crime data reporting in the United States.
“We need to work together to make our community safer – everyone from local leaders to law enforcement to residents,” McClinton said. “I’m proud to have helped secure these grants for Yeadon and Darby to aide them in updating their systems and streamlining their coordination with other law enforcement agencies.”
McClinton added that the data collected through NIBRS provides the ability to capture details on criminal incidents, including information on victims, known offenders, relationships between victims and offenders, arrestees and property involved in crimes.
The state funding was awarded by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, which approved $80 million in grants statewide to improve crime reporting, help law enforcement upgrade equipment, support victims of crime and victim service providers, and support county jail-based medication-assisted treatment for individuals with substance use disorder.
PCCD also facilitates other state grant programs to prevent violence including School Safety and Mental Health, Violence Intervention and Prevention, and the new Building Opportunity through Out of School Time program, which was created as part of the 2024-25 state budget. More information on these programs and other is available on PCCD’s website.
