The Pennsylvania House is the nation’s oldest continuously operating state legislative body - and for most of that history all of the representatives were men.

That changed in 1923. In the first election after women gained the right to vote, Pennsylvania elected eight women to the House. Ever since, women have been serving their neighbors and making history in Harrisburg.

Fast forward 102 years and now there are 63 women in the state House, with a record number serving in leadership positions.

Each of these women have a powerful story to share about their path to public service.

We asked each of them to write a note with advice they’d offer to their younger selves, and what they shared were lessons that everyone can learn from.
