“When a member of our community like Nick passes in our community it affects everyone,” McAndrew said. “Our paramedics dedicate so much to the people, doing everything they can to help those in their care. Nick was a special person who gave so much and to memorialize him in this way is a blessing. May his memory be carried on for years to come and his spirit be passed on to those who care for people in this new ambulance for years to come.” Read more

“Going around the Penn Hills community in my first term, I heard time and time again the need for investment into our youth, and general concern that there were not enough after school resources for them to participate in,” said state Rep. Joe McAndrew. “To step up and support delivering $1 million in funding to our region for a minority business owner to build a new facility for our youth athletics and to drive $1 million to a community center predominantly supporting our black youth in after school programing are huge wins to our region and for our youth." PENN HILLS, Jan. 29 – State Reps. Joe McAndrew and Brandon Markosek, both D-Allegheny and serving on the House Transportation Committee, released a statement today following the announcement of Gov. Josh Shapiro’s plan to increase the state share of public transit funding by 1.75% – a $282.8 million investment , and nearly $1.5 billion in new state funding over five years -- in transit systems that Pennsylvanians rely on. “Public transit is a necessity for many hardworking Pennsylvanians, who rely on it to get to work or school, or to move around their cities and towns. Accessible, reliable and pollution-free public transit options are essential for our communities, and the proposed plan is a step in the right direction. “As members of the House Transportation Committee, we welcome a plan that increases funding for public transportation, which will benefit not only residents but also businesses and the state's economy. “We look forward to reviewing the details of Governor Shapiro's public transportation funding plan when he announces his 2024-25 budget proposal soon and will continue to work together to support safe and accessible public transportation, especially for working families, in large and small communities across the state.” ### House Democrats are committed to promoting better jobs, better schools and better communities.
