HARRISBURG (August 7, 2020) – Today, a group of state lawmakers from Delaware County called for District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer to investigate violence and intimidation aimed at Black Lives Matter supporters during a march in Ridley Township on Saturday, August 1 st . State Sens. Tim Kearney and Anthony Williams as well as State Reps. Leanne Krueger, Margo Davidson, David Delloso, Brian Kirkland, and Joanna McClinton signed the letter, which details how peaceful protesters were met with violence and intimidation by a group of counter-protesters. The letter calls for Delaware County’s District Attorney to investigate the counter-protesters’ actions and the Ridley Township Police Department’s response. “I was proud to participate in the Black Lives Matter protest and stand with people of all races and all ages against systemic racism,” said Sen. Leanne Krueger, D-Delaware, released the following statement denouncing violence and intimidation aimed at Black Lives Matter supporters during a march over the weekend here. “I am in awe of our neighbors, especially the young people, who organized a peaceful march through Ridley in support of Black Lives last weekend. By all accounts — from community members with whom I have spoken and video I have seen on social media — the group marching in support of Black Lives was inclusive and peaceful. “I join others across our community in expressing horror that this demonstration of love and support for Black lives was met by a menacing group of predominantly white men, some brandishing weapons and openly intoxicated, standing outside of the Ridley Township Police Station. White men in trucks and on motorcycles were also seen driving recklessly on MacDade Boulevard, dangerously close to protesters. “Videos posted online clearly show hostile and vitriolic language hurled at our neighbors, some of whom marched with young children, and the violent act of ripping a BLM flag out of the hands of a protester. HARRISBURG, July 16 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger announced that Aston Township was awarded a $1.8 million state grant to support intersection improvements along Concord Road. The grant comes through the state’s Multimodal Transportation Fund. The township will use the funding to convert two traditional intersections along a highly traveled portion of Concord Road into modern roundabouts to reduce congestion, improve air quality and enhance pedestrian mobility. “Reducing congestion is critical for the safety of drivers and others on the road, so I’m pleased to see state funding support improvements for one of the busier stretches in our district,” said Krueger, D-Delaware. “I look forward to seeing these improvements come to fruition and make it a little easier to get around our community.” Act 89 established the dedicated Multimodal Transportation Fund, which stabilizes funding for ports and rail freight, increases aviation investments, establishes dedicated funding for bicycle and pedestrian improvements, and allows targeted funding for priority investments in any mode. HARRISBURG, July 8 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger issued the following statement on today’s U.S. Supreme Court decision allowing employers with religious or moral objections to decline to provide health care coverage for contraception: “I’m deeply disappointed in today’s decision from the Supreme Court. Contraception is health care, and employers should not be allowed to decide what medical care a woman has the right to receive. Access to health care is inextricably linked to economic mobility, and basic preventative care like birth control should not be a luxury that is only available to some. We should be reducing barriers to health care, not creating more. “Everyone deserves quality, affordable health care, and I intend to keep fighting to see that everyone has access to it. I will soon reintroduce legislation to protect and expand access to birth control in Pennsylvania. It’s time to support women and preserve their fundamental right to health care.” Read more

Applications are expected to be available June 30 for a new program aimed at providing critical funding to local businesses hurt by the coronavirus. The first round of the $225 million COVID-19 Relief Statewide Small Business Assistance grant program is expected to open for applications on Tuesday, June 30 and will remain open for 10 business days. Additionally, applications will continue to be accepted after 10 business days to be considered for future rounds of funding. Those rounds will be announced soon. This program will award grants ranging from $5,000 - $50,000 to small businesses economically impacted by the coronavirus, and money is specifically set aside for businesses owned by socially and economically disadvantaged people. FOLSOM, June 24 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger announced today that Schoolhouse Senior Center was awarded a $30,123 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Aging. The grant comes through the department’s 2019-20 Senior Community Center Grant Program, which aims to help centers increase participation and programming, attract a new generation of older adults, and provide a safe and healthy environment for participants. Schoolhouse Senior Center, in Folsom, will use the funds for the second phase of a project to revitalize and modernize the building, including replacing windows, lighting, ceiling and air conditioning vents, refinishing floors and more. “I’ve seen firsthand the wonderful work that Schoolhouse Senior Center does to keep our older neighbors active and engaged,” said Krueger, D-Delaware. “This project will extend the life of the building and help the center create a more welcoming environment where seniors can enjoy activities and connect with resources. I was pleased to assist the center with the grant application process, and I’m glad funding was awarded to support the vital service the center provides to our community.” The center was one of 60 throughout the state to receive funding. Leanne Krueger on Thursday issued the following statement in response to the Philadelphia Inquirer reporting that the president of the Penn-Delco School District Board of Directors shared racist social media posts as well as misinformation about COVID-19 response measures. “All public servants, whether police officers, state legislators or school board directors, are subject to a higher standard of propriety because of the trust we put in them to faithfully discharge their duties of collecting our tax dollars, keeping us safe and providing for our families. Any individual who is uninterested in serving all people — regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or economic background — is unfit for public service and ought to be removed from their post. “Penn-Delco School Board President Leon Armour’s Facebook page was riddled with racist, ableist, and xenophobic posts. No apology — especially not one prefaced on interpretation — can undo the hurt caused by the words and images shared by Mr. Armour.
