The holiday season is finally in full swing. Thursday evening was the first night of Hanukkah, and the Christmas tree and menorah were both lit in the Capitol building in Harrisburg! December has finally arrived, and boy, it was a rainy welcome to the holiday month! Even with the wet, cold weather, the annual Hatboro Christmas Tree lighting was a great success. Mrs. Claus and Santa arrived on the firetruck to light the tree and enjoy hot chocolate and cookies with all the children in the community. My Open House was also a lovely time – getting to chat with constituents and enjoy some warm cider and even more cookies! We are looking forward to a month of joy and love in the community! Read more

It was a busy week in Harrisburg. We got HB 1416 passed through the House which will provide retirees with a much-needed and deserved COLA (cost of living adjustment). This is especially helpful for those older adults living on a fixed income. It will also increase monthly pension payments for school employees and state workers. It was a busy week for me in Harrisburg - pushing legislation that will help the communities I serve to grow and prosper. I introduced important legislation that would allow Nurse Practitioners Full Practice Authority – allowing everyone in the Commonwealth quality and timely healthcare. I also stood with the LQBTQ+ community in support of legislation to protect students from gender-based discrimination and provide inclusive curriculum in PA schools. Read more

Joe Hohenstein, D-Phila.; Nancy Guenst, D-Montgomery; Paul Takac, D-Centre; Ismail Smith-Wade-El, D-Lancaster; Tarik Khan, D-Phila.; the PA Coalition for Trans Youth; Transgender Advocates Knowledgeable Empowering; NEPA Stands Up and allies held a rally for safe and equal schools on the state Capitol steps in Harrisburg on Tuesday. Speakers highlighted a package of bills that would protect students from gender-based discrimination, bullying and harassment, and provide inclusive accommodations and curriculum. The package includes: Legislation introduced by Guenst that would create a statewide policy for all public schools to prohibit student discrimination and harassment based on actual or perceived sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression through anti-discrimination and harassment prevention and early intervention policies to create a supportive and equal opportunity learning environment. “Our children deserve to step into their learning environments across the commonwealth feeling safe and respected. State Reps. Nancy Guenst, D-Montgomery, and Brian Munroe, D-Bucks, announced they will host the Bucks Mont Veterans Expo from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 at the Vereinigung Erzgebirge (VE Club), 130 Davisville Road in Warminster. The event, which is free and open to the public, aims to connect Bucks and Montgomery county veterans and their families to available resources. "My office is excited to host this event for the brave men and women who've served our country,” said Guenst, an Army veteran. “Discover a wealth of support and resources tailored to your needs, with dedicated VA representatives on hand to guide you through essential programs and services. I had the pleasure of meeting with other Pennsylvania legislators as well as Governor Shapiro and Lieutenant Governor Davis to sign into law an Executive Order which will open up new opportunities for small businesses and small, diverse businesses and improve state procurement practices. This will result in an increase in the number of businesses that will qualify as “small businesses” and allow these businesses to compete for government contracts and become Commonwealth vendors.
