Rep. Tina Davis has introduced legislation that would exempt experienced emergency responders from fees totaling more than $47 for state and federal background clearances. Davis' House Bill 1081 would spare paid and volunteer firefighters and emergency medical service responders from the $10 clearances from the state police and state Department of Human Services and the $27.50 fee for an FBI criminal background clearance.
The Bucks County delegation on Jan. 21 recognized the state champion soccer teams from Holy Ghost Prep and Villa Joseph Marie High School. In October, the Firebirds from Holy Ghost captured their second consecutive state title in boys' Class AA by defeating Lancaster Mennonite School, 3-1. They are coached by Ken Lawson and Dave Simpson. The Jems from Villa Joseph Marie won the girls' 2014 PIAA Class AA championship, shutting out Villa Maria Academy 1-0 in the title game at Hersheypark Stadium. The team is coached by Rich Finneyfrock, who was named National Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, as well as Carly Metzger and Nick Zlupko.
