UPPER DARBY, Nov. 1 – State Rep. Gina H. Curry, D-Delaware, has announced that the William Penn School District was awarded $1,000,000 in RACP grants.
The funds came from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, which is a Pennsylvania grant program for the design, acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects. RACP projects have a regional impact and generate substantial increases or maintain current levels of employment, tax revenues or other measures of economic activity. RACP projects are state-funded projects that cannot obtain primary funding under other state programs.
William Penn School District will use the funds to offset total construction costs related to a building addition, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, sitework, building renovation and other miscellaneous costs.
"Our students thrive when they have access to modern facilities," Curry stated. "For far too long, the students, teachers and staff of the William Penn School District have had to work in outdated buildings, making it difficult for students to focus and teachers to work. Governor Shapiro and the legislature recognize this challenge, which is why I’m incredibly excited about this grant because this community has waited so long for these improvements. These funds that ease construction costs are just the first step towards a brighter future for the students of the WPSD!"
