PennDOT announces $3.1 million contract for Lansdowne Avenue

Project will bring numerous traffic safety improvements to 164th Legislative District

HARRISBURG, Sept. 20 – State Rep. Gina H. Curry, D-Delaware, is proud to announce that PennDOT has awarded a $3,121,102 contract for a safety improvement project along the Lansdowne Avenue corridor spanning from Marshall Road to Baltimore Avenue in the boroughs of Lansdowne, Yeadon and Darby.

Under this safety improvement project, PennDOT will enhance the project corridor by installing retroreflective backplates on signals, coordinating arterial signals, adding pedestrian countdown timers on new signal poles, installing additional lighting and mast arms, and designing and building ADA ramps where applicable. The project also includes installing fiber optic cable on the existing utility poles to coordinate signals between Marshall Road and Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital.

"We are grateful for PennDOT's commitment to enhancing safety along the Lansdowne Avenue corridor,” Curry said. “$3.1 million is a crucial investment and a significant step toward fostering safety and more accessibility for all residents of Lansdowne, Yeadon and Darby. By improving signal coordination, adding pedestrian countdown timers and installing ADA ramps, we are prioritizing the needs of our community and championing the rights of every individual to navigate their neighborhoods safely. As we look forward to the project's start in 2025, we remain vigilant in advocating for ongoing improvements that ensure equitable access for all. Together, we can build a future where safety and accessibility are non-negotiable standards in our infrastructure."

The Lansdowne Avenue corridor safety improvement project is scheduled to commence in spring 2025 and is projected to be completed by spring 2026 with no expected vehicle detours. The project is financed with 100 percent federal funds.
