Guzman highlights $150,000 investment for Reading Area Community College

READING, March 31 – State Rep. Manuel Guzman, D-Berks, today announced $150,000 in grant funding has been awarded to the Reading Area Community College through the Pennsylvania Department of Education to support student parents pursuing higher education. The funding will help expand programs that offer tuition assistance, emergency financial aid, and other services designed to reduce barriers for parenting students. “Education is one of my top priorities, and I remain committed to ensuring that people across all stages of life have access to the tools they need to succeed,” Guzman said. “This funding will make a real difference for families in our community by helping student parents achieve their goals.” Guzman noted that his district, which includes parts of the city of Reading, continues to benefit from investments that strengthen access to affordable education. “This is an important investment in our community’s future,” Guzman added. “When we support education, we create more opportunities for families and boost our local economy." Guzman welcomes $70,490 in state grants for Alvernia and Kutztown universities for sexual violence prevention

READING , March 17 – State Rep. Manuel Guzman today announced that Alvernia and Kutztown universities will receive a combined $70,490 in state funding to support sexual assault prevention and survivor support programs through the It’s On Us PA initiative. The It’s On Us PA campaign brings together college and university leaders, students, families, and community members to raise awareness about sexual violence, educate students about consent, and empower bystanders to intervene. The campaign also provides support services for survivors. “Students deserve safe campuses and access to the resources they need,” Guzman said. “This funding will help Alvernia and Kutztown provide critical education, help support survivors, and create safer communities across our county.” Berks County Grants: Alvernia University: $30,490 – supporting campus programs that provide survivor resources and education on sexual assault awareness. Guzman announces over $300,000 in investments for local projects

READING, March 18 – More than $300,000 in state investments will be going toward countywide and local projects, state Rep. Manuel Guzman announced. Funding was approved through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s Local Share Account, which distributes gaming revenues to support projects in the public interest. Countywide, $150,000 was approved for the purchase and upfitting of a crime scene response vehicle to serve as the primary crime response vehicle in Berks County. “I know that in times of crisis, such as responding to a crime scene, our first responders need the most up-to-date and functional equipment,” Guzman said. “This funding will help first responders reach the scene quickly, safely, and ready to react to any situation.” In addition, the following projects will receive grant funding in Shillington Borough: $103,598 has been approved for the purchase of a new dump truck, plow and corresponding accessories for use in street plowing, salting, repairing existing sewer lines and delivering heavy materials. $20,164 has been approved to purchase a new mower with accessories package. Manuel Guzman, D-Berks, today announced that Safe Berks has received $100,000 in grant funding through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development. The grant has been awarded to: Safe Berks – Sidewalk and Safety Project – $100,000. Funds will be utilized to support improvements, including safety and security upgrades at the domestic violence shelter and sidewalk repairs. “I am proud and very excited to secure these funds, which will be used for much-needed critical repairs and upgrades to continue providing a safe haven for our community’s domestic and sexual violence survivors and their families,” Guzman said. “It is deeply rewarding to support initiatives that strengthen the vital services Safe Berks provides. Guzman to host annual Black History Month Celebration

Manuel Guzman, D-Berks, announced today that $242,596 in grant funding from the Commonwealth Financing Authority, through the Multimodal Transportation Fund, has been awarded to support the Gerry Street Connector Project in Reading. The $242,596 grant will be used for the creation of a pedestrian trail connector from Gerry Street to the Lancaster Avenue Plaza. “This funding will deliver a vital pedestrian connector for our community,” Guzman said. “The Gerry Street Connector Project will improve safety, accessibility and connectivity for residents and visitors, while strengthening links between our neighborhoods. “This investment also reflects my ongoing commitment to building infrastructure that promotes walkability and improves quality of life in Reading,” he added.
