Burns invites senior citizens to seminar

HARRISBURG, June 18 – State Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria/Somerset, is inviting senior citizens to attend a seminar he is hosting on utilities and telemarketing scams.

The seminar will be held at 1 p.m. June 27 at the Cresson Senior Center, 715 Front St., Cresson. A second session will be held at 6 p.m. for those who are not able to attend the afternoon seminar.

"This seminar is designed to help address the concerns senior citizens have about utility companies, particularly in light of ElectricChoice and the skyrocketing electric rates from the brutal winter weather," Burns said. "We'll also offer ways they can protect themselves from the various telemarketing scams that are happening today. I think awareness and education are key."

Speakers at the seminar will include Christine Chase Pettis from the Public Utility Commission and Heather Woder from the state's Office of Consumer Advocate.
