Burns: $223,925 awarded to area schools for career, technical education

EBENSBURG, Jan. 13 – Continuing his efforts to bring state funding home for the region, state Rep. Frank Burns announced today that he was successful in advocating for local schools to receive Competitive Equipment Grants for career and technical programs.

Admiral Peary Area Vocational Technical School was awarded $85,000; Greater Johnstown School District, $53,925; and Greater Johnstown Career and Technical Center, $85,000.

“These grants are part of a program to help technical schools and career centers purchase equipment for high-demand careers so students can get the hands-on training necessary for them to enter the workforce in these careers,” Burns said. “This also gives employers access to a qualified workforce from day one.”

Over the last several years, the state has invested heavily in career and technical centers and other jobs programs, expanded apprenticeships that provide an income during training, and realigned workforce development programs to prepare students to enter the workforce.

Burns has supported these investments locally and worked at the state level to improve Cambria County’s and Pennsylvania’s economic competitiveness by authoring and supporting legislation to help industries and small businesses, improve transportation connections, and lower taxes through things like the Keystone Opportunity Zone he brought to the area.
