Burns to celebrate older Pennsylvanians, offer information on state programs

HARRISBURG, May 9 – To help celebrate Older Pennsylvanians Month, state Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria/Somerset, is visiting area senior centers and bringing with him ice cream and information about state programs and services for older residents.

"Our older adults are productive, active and influential members of society who share their talents, wisdom and life experiences with others," Burns said. "These events – with a side of ice cream -- are my way of sharing my wisdom of state services and programs with them."

Each ice cream social for seniors will be held at 11:30 a.m. on the following days and locations:

  • Monday, May 12 – Ebensburg Senior Center
  • Tuesday, May 13 – Cresson Senior Center
  • Thursday, May 15 – Patton Senior Center
  • Friday, May 16 – Portage Senior Center
  • Monday, May 19 – Cresson Fire Hall
  • Wednesday, May 21 – Jackson Township Senior Center

At each event, Burns also will present H.R. 827, a resolution he authored recognizing May as Older Pennsylvanians Month.

Nationally, May also is known as Older Americans Month. The theme for 2014 is "Safe Today. Healthy Tomorrow."
