Burns to present citation to Cambria County Fire School Sunday

JOHNSTOWN, April 25 – In honor of the Cambria County Fire School's 60th anniversary, state Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria/Somerset, will present a citation and visit some of the classes on the last day of training this weekend.

The citation presentation will be held between 12:15 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. Sunday, April 27 during lunch at the fire school site, 292 Ott Road, Patton.

Before the presentation, Burns will tour the school and visit classes, such as the structural burn and rappelling classes, and the water rescue and emergency vehicle driver training. During his tour, Burns is expected to be outfitted with turn-out gear and go through the controlled-burn building.

The first fire school was held in 1954 at the Cambria County Fairgrounds. A total of 700 registrations were received for the school. The school has been held at a variety of locations since its inception, including Williamsport, Bucks County and Harrisburg Area community colleges, before moving to its current location at Cambria Heights High School in 1995.
