Upper Yoder Township Authority to receive $8.5 million for sewer project

HARRISBURG, April 22 – State Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria/Somerset, today announced that Upper Yoder Township Authority will receive $8.5 million from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority, known as Pennvest.

The authority will use the combination of low-interest loan and grant funding to rehabilitate its existing sanitary sewer system, complete with more than 93,000 linear feet of 8-inch sewer lining, 125 feet of elevated stream crossing, repairs and manhole rehabilitation.

"This funding will help Upper Yoder continue to rehab its public sewer system, which will improve the public health, as well as aquatic health in Stony Creek," Burns said.

Upper Yoder Township Authority will receive a $7.8 million loan for 22.75 years at 1 percent interest. The remaining $668,385 from Pennvest is a grant.

The total project cost is estimated at $8.7 million.

This sewer system serves about 1,550 customers.

Pennvest was created by the General Assembly in 1988. It offers low-cost loans and grants to communities throughout Pennsylvania to fund sewer, stormwater and drinking water maintenance and improvement projects that improve the environment, create jobs, and protect the health of citizens.
