Local governments, area organizations invited to Burns' grant seminar

JOHNSTOWN, Jan. 23 – State Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria/Somerset, will host an information session for area organizations, including historical and recreation groups, and local municipalities to learn more about grant opportunities available to them.

The seminar will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon Thursday, Feb. 20 at the Ebensburg Borough Building, 300 W. High St. Registration begins at 8 a.m. A second session may be held in the evening, if there is enough interest.

The snow date for this event is Feb. 21.

"In today's economy, some organizations and municipalities are struggling to maintain their programs and make ends meet. Grants can help, but it's not always easy to find out what's available," Burns said. "My goal with this seminar is to provide these groups with the information they need for potential added funding opportunities and point them in the right direction for getting started."

Providing information at the seminar are: the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Allegheny Ridge Corp., Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, District 9.

Other potential discussion topics include the 2014 DCNR grant process and more information about advancing projects for historical organizations or snowmobile clubs, as well as how PennDOT can assist municipalities and nonprofit organizations.

Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP by Feb. 14. For more information on the seminar, contact Burns' constituent service office at 814-472-8021.
