Johnstown added to state’s Creative Communities Initiative

Will receive multi-year grant to support art creation

HARRISBURG, Aug. 16 State Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, today announced that the Bottleworks Ethnic Arts Center in Johnstown will lead a public arts and activities project in Cambria City to engage local artists, residents and youth.

Called the CREATE Public Art Initiative, the project will receive $100,000 over four years from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.

“Arts and culture account for more than $30 billion of our state’s economy, supporting more than 175,000 jobs,” Burns said. “By extension, this helps our regional economy and also contributes to our quality of life.”

The PCA added the project in the Cambria City historical district to its Creative Communities Initiative. As a place-based community and economic development project, PCA said it was selected for its innovative and comprehensive approach to addressing a variety of local challenges and opportunities.

The Creative Communities Initiative strengthens Pennsylvania communities through support for arts-based community and economic development work. Each CCI project is rooted in deep community engagement and capitalizes on the community’s unique creative assets to cultivate community connectedness, livability, and economic development.
