Burns: Hard work paying off as KOZ creates new opportunities for Johnstown
Connects governor and First Summit CEO to discuss supporting local expansion

JOHNSTOWN, July 31 — State Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, today said the recently enacted Keystone Opportunity Zone designation is already creating new economic development opportunities for businesses looking to invest, expand and create jobs in the Johnstown area.
This week, Burns met with Gov. Josh Shapiro and First Summit Bank CEO Allison S. Johnson at the state Capitol to discuss the bank’s expansion plans in Johnstown and how the KOZ program could help support that investment.
“This is what happens when we work hard, stay focused and fight to bring resources home to our community,” Burns said. “The KOZ gives us a powerful tool to attract new businesses, help existing employers expand and create good-paying jobs for local residents.”
Burns said the designation can provide significant state tax benefits to qualifying businesses that locate or expand within approved KOZ areas.

In last year’s state budget, Burns secured the designation of 300 acres in Cambria County, including 40 in Johnstown, for the KOZ program. Business Facilities magazine has named KOZs the top economic development strategy in the country.
“My door is always open to any business owner, developer or resident in my district who has an idea that could create jobs or improve our community,” Burns said. “I will continue working with Governor Shapiro, local officials and private-sector leaders to turn these opportunities into real investment and lasting economic growth for Johnstown.”
