HARRISBURG, Jan. 25 – State Rep. Frank Burns wants to alert local governments to a new program that offers training, guidance and funding opportunities so they are better prepared to apply for, manage and implement federal funding.
The Appalachian Regional Commission is offering a no-cost, nine-week virtual training program called READY Local Governments that will help local government administrators and officials learn about how to identify and plan a project and develop a federal grant application, as well as the regulations and compliance, and risk management, among other related topics.
“I’ve said all along that if municipalities, organizations and businesses in the area don’t apply for grants and other government funding, then it will be given to someone else, somewhere else,” said Burns, D-Cambria. “My office routinely helps entities apply for state funding. Now there’s a training program that can do that for federal funding. I encourage local governments to look into this training program and apply.”
After completing the training, local governments may apply for up to $50,000 in funding to implement internal projects to help them increase their effectiveness.
The program guidelines are available here. The deadline to apply is Feb. 29 and capacity is limited to 180 local government officials, with no more than two officials per community. To learn more about the program and apply, those interested may register for a webinar at 1 p.m. Feb. 8.
The Appalachian Regional Commission is an economic development entity of the federal government and 13 state governments, including Pennsylvania, focusing on 423 counties across the Appalachian Region.
