Burns: Local school bus company awarded $200,000 state grant to replace aging diesels

More efficient diesel buses will improve air conditions

EBENSBURG, March 31 – A local company that provides transportation for seven area school districts will be replacing several older school buses with newer, more efficient models thanks in part to a $200,000 state grant, state Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, announced today.

“This state grant will help a local, veteran-owned company replace a number of aging diesel buses with newer, more efficient models, a win-win for our community, the environment and students,” Burns said. “This is another example of state funding that could have gone to a big city spending program, but instead is being invested here in our communities.”

The grant, which was awarded by the Department of Environmental Protection’s Clean Diesel Grant Program to McIlwain School Bus Lines, of Upper Yoder Township, will enable the company to replace 10 older buses with new ones. McIlwain provides pupil transportation service to seven school districts in Cambria and Somerset counties with a fleet of over 250 buses and vans.
