Burns: $25,000 to help preserve Prince Gallitzin Chapel House

Historic Loretto building approaching its 200th anniversary

EBENSBURG, Sept. 9 – With its 200th birthday just around the corner in 2025, state Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, today announced a $25,000 grant to help preserve the historic Prince Gallitzin Chapel House in Loretto.

“The Prince Gallitzin story is a true American tale – one of selfless service that led to the founding of Loretto, and whose legacy is still felt today,” Burns said. “With the 200th anniversary of the chapel house approaching, I am happy that efforts are underway to preserve it for the future.”

The grant, awarded by the state Historical and Museum Commission through the Keystone Historic Preservation Grant Program, will help fund a study and master plan for the chapel house by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown.
