Burgos to host Dominican Independence Day Event

HARRISBURG, Feb. 4 – State Rep. Danilo Burgos, D-Phila., will host a Dominican Independence Day celebration event news conference at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7 in the Main Capitol Rotunda. Burgos will be joined by state Reps. Kinsey seeks solutions for problems in Pa. prison system

HARRISBURG, Jan. 26 – State Rep. Stephen Kinsey, D-Phila., held a news conference today with House and Senate colleagues and prison-reform advocates to discuss legislation to help address systemic problems in Pennsylvania’s prison system. Burgos announces $1 million in redevelopment funding for North Philadelphia

HARRISBURG, Dec. 6 – State Rep. Danilo Burgos, D-Phila., today announced $1 million in state grants were awarded to North Philadelphia for redevelopment projects. The funds are going to Nueva Esperanza, Inc. to build a mixed-use building to include eight to 12 new units of affordable rental housing and an approximately 5,000 SF economic incubator space. The project will provide affordable housing in the Hunting Park neighborhood. “Affordable housing is much needed in Hunting Park and I am very excited to see these funds going towards it,” Burgos said. The ground floor will also create an economic incubator space to help develop new business and increase the capacity of existing businesses in the community. The Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program is a grant program administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects. RACP projects are authorized in the Redevelopment Assistance section of a Capital Budget Itemization Act, have a regional or multi-jurisdictional impact, and generate substantial increases or maintain current levels of employment, tax revenue or other measures of economic activity. STATE PROGRAMS NOW OPEN FOR APPLICATIONS: Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs: Substance Use Disorder Drop-In Centers (Funding Source: Federal Funding) Who Can Apply : Existing drop-in centers in Allegheny, Philadelphia, Bucks, Delaware, and Montgomery counties. Single County Authorities (SCAs) are not eligible to apply, nor are DDAP-licensed treatment providers. Use : To expand drop-in center services for individuals with substance use disorder (SUD) in areas of the commonwealth experiencing high overdose deaths. Funds : Approximately two to three grants up to $650,000 each will be awarded. LIHEAP: Expanded Home-Heating Assistance is Available to PA Renters, Homeowners

As winter approaches and we prepare to spend even more time indoors, utility bills are only going to get more expensive. Additionally, we know that the COVID-19 pandemic and economic downturn have made it difficult for many to keep up with home energy bills. No Pennsylvanian should ever have to worry that their heat will be shut off during the coldest and darkest months of the year. The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a federally funded program administered by the Department of Human Services (DHS) that provides assistance for home heating bills so Pennsylvanians can stay warm and safe during the winter months. Assistance is available for both renters and homeowners. LIHEAP helps some of the commonwealth’s most vulnerable citizens — children, older Pennsylvanians, people with disabilities, and low-income families — make ends meet. Anyone who may need help, or anyone who has loved ones or neighbors who could benefit from this program, is encouraged to apply for LIHEAP today. Burgos appointed to Legislative Budget and Finance Committee

HARRISBURG, Oct. 12 – State Rep. Danilo Burgos, D-Phila., has been appointed to the Pennsylvania Legislative Budget and Finance Committee. Burgos’ appointment to the LBFC was recommended by Democratic Leader Joanna McClinton, D-Delaware/Phila. Burgos said, “I am deeply honored to be appointed to the LBFC and look forward to helping with our state’s budget.” The LBFC is a bipartisan, bicameral committee consisting of 12 members of the General Assembly. The committee conducts studies and makes recommendations aimed at eliminating unnecessary expenditures; promoting economy in the government of the commonwealth; and assuring that state funds are being expended in accordance with legislative intent and law. Burgos introduces legislation to establish the PA Socially Diverse Farmers Commission

HARRISBURG, April 27 – State Rep. Danilo Burgos, D-Phila., introduced H.B. 1301 today, legislation to establish the Pennsylvania Socially Diverse Farmers Commission to review current policies and produce a report making recommendations to promote and implement a Commonwealth diversity, equity and inclusion plan within the Department of Agriculture. “Each and every Pennsylvanian has the ability to touch, feel and taste Pennsylvania’s bountiful fruits, vegetables, meat and dairy and other agricultural goods – but not every Pennsylvanian has the same opportunity to help grow and produce it or participate in Pennsylvania’s $132.5 billion agricultural industry,” Burgos said. “It’s time to establish the Pennsylvania Socially Diverse Farmers Commission to determine what policies are needed to open Pa.’s ag industry to a more diverse generation of Pa. farmers to grow and produce the high-quality foods that feed our families and economy.” According to the USDA’s 2017 Census of Agriculture , of the 90,461 producers in Pennsylvania, 89,843 were white, 759 were Hispanic, Latino or Spanish origin, 108 were American Indian/Alaska Native, 103 were Asian and 80 were Black or African American. Shuttered Venue Operators Grant portal reopens Saturday, April 24th

The U.S. Small Business Administration has announced that the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant application portal will reopen on Saturday, April 24. Updated documents and guidance will be available today (Friday, April 23rd) by clicking here . This is a grant program established by the Economic Aid to Hard-Hit Small Businesses, Nonprofits, and Venues Act, and amended by the American Rescue Plan Act. The program includes over $16 billion in grants to shuttered venues, and is administered by SBA’s Office of Disaster Assistance. Eligible applicants may qualify for grants equal to 45% of their gross earned revenue , with the maximum amount available for a single grant award of $10 million. $2 billion is reserved for eligible applications with up to 50 full-time employees. Eligible entities include: Live venue operators or promoters. Theatrical producers. Live performing arts organization operators. Museum operators. Motion picture theater operators (including owners). Talent representatives. Other requirements of note: Must have been in operation as of February 29, 2020.
