Make Sure You Register to Vote!
|
Primary Election Day is rapidly approaching! The election is on May 19, and it is important that everyone have their voices heard at the ballot box. You can register to vote here by Monday, May 4, check your registration here, and request a mail-in ballot here by May 12.
Under current Pennsylvania law, you must be a registered Democrat or Republican to vote in that respective party’s primary election. I am proud to support legislation that would let all eligible voters, even those who are not affiliated with a political party, have a say in their government by voting in the primary.

My Legislation to Protect Homeowners Advances
|
For almost all Pennsylvanians, their home is their most valuable financial asset. We decided long ago that any home-secured financial instruments, such as mortgages, must be transparent, protect consumers, and not allow predatory tactics. Shared equity agreements are a new type of home-secured financial instrument.
My bipartisan legislation to regulate shared equity agreements like mortgages was passed by the House Commerce Committee unanimously. It now advances to the full House for consideration. You can learn more about the legislation here on ABC27.

Supporting our Healthcare Professionals
|
This week, I joined PA House Speaker Joanna McClinton in welcoming the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians to Harrisburg for their advocacy day at the State Capitol. Thank you to all our family physicians who work to improve the health of all Pennsylvanians.
|
I also joined several of my colleagues to meet with nurses from Magee-Women’s Hospital to discuss their efforts to organize on behalf of their patients and profession. Our nurses are vital to advancing the health of our community, and I will continue to support their efforts.

Recognizing our Outstanding Local Students

Fifteen students represented North Allegheny at the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association’s All-State Festival at Kalahari Resort in the Poconos.

Three students from Hampton Township School District also represented their school at the PMEA All-State Festival. This marks the first year since 2022 that any Hampton students have qualified, and the first time ever that more than one student has qualified in a single year.

Thirty-four North Allegheny students recently traveled to Atlanta to compete in the DECA International Career Development Conference, testing their business skills against thousands of peers from around the world. Out of the school’s 34 attendees, seven students earned top 20 honors or higher in their respective categories.

Governor’s Survey for Women in Pennsylvania
|
The Governor’s Advisory Commission on Women has launched a new digital survey to gather input from women across Pennsylvania. This survey is part of the Shapiro Administration’s upcoming State of the Woman Report, a comprehensive, data-driven effort to assess the status of women throughout the state.
The survey, which can be found here, will be open through May 30 and will collect insight from Pennsylvania women on their experiences and priorities to better inform the Administration’s policies that impact women. The survey is also available in Spanish and Chinese.
There will also be a statewide listening tour to further engage with the women of Pennsylvania, including a stop in Pittsburgh on May 14.
