House Passes Health Insurance Legislation I Partnered On

This week, the House overwhelmingly passed HB 2550, legislation I partnered on with Reps. Jen Mazzocco and Steve Samuelson, which would create a tax credit to allow small businesses to expand health insurance coverage for their employees. With over 160,000 Pennsylvanians dropping health insurance coverage from our state insurance exchange, PENNIE, it is critical that we make every effort to make health insurance more affordable and accessible.

This crucial legislation will now move to the Senate for consideration.

Advancing Nuclear Energy – and other Harrisburg Updates

I joined several of my bipartisan colleagues in the Nuclear Energy Caucus to learn how we can enact policies to responsibly expand this clean, baseload energy source in Pennsylvania.

I partnered with Rep. Jeremy Shaffer to welcome the North Allegheny School District Speech and Debate team to the Capitol to recognize their state championship victory. I also had the honor—and a special dad moment—of welcoming my son, Ashok, a member of the team, to meet my colleagues in Harrisburg.

As an ER doctor who has cared for so many of my neighbors, I know how important it is to support aging and caring for those in need at home. I was proud to stand with colleagues in our state budget to support home care workers in Pennsylvania.

I also joined my colleagues and advocates to urge the passage of the Family Care Act, bipartisan legislation to establish a paid family leave program in Pennsylvania. Paid family leave is needed in Pennsylvania—for the health of ourselves, our families, our communities, and our Commonwealth—and I’m proud to stand up for it.

Honoring our Local Boy Scouts

Scouting is an extraordinary way to develop leadership, citizenship, and life skills. I was proud to join bipartisan colleagues in welcoming Boy Scouts from across Pennsylvania to Harrisburg this week.

Additionally, Jennifer from my staff presented PA House citations to Scouts from Troop 335 who achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Congratulations to Sean Clark, Christopher Glatz, Samay Shetty, and Anthony Slegal on your outstanding accomplishments, and thank you for your service to our community!
