Rep. Mandy Steele July 6, 2023 | 10:11 AM
HARRISBURG, July 6 – After the PA House of Representatives passed the state budget (H.B. 611) Wednesday evening, state Rep. Mandy Steele, D-Allegheny, highlighted funding for the Department of Environmental Protection and increased investments in public schools and creating jobs in Pennsylvania.
Steele said the budget will increase state funding to DEP by 10.9%, public schools in Allegheny County by 8.6% and the Workforce Development Program by 60%.
“With more than $202.95 million in funding for DEP, $80.26 million in funding for public schools within Allegheny County, and $8 million in the Workforce Development Program, we can begin to work to address environmental issues such as the climate crisis, reform Pennsylvania’s public school funding system and continue to recruit and retain workers in Pennsylvania by keeping Pennsylvania open for business,” Steele said.
The budget includes approximately $45 billion for programs and services without any increases in state taxes. Steele said the budget passed the Senate and House and should now advance to Gov. Josh Shapiro’s desk.
