Friel announces more than $2.2M in state grant funding for local infrastructure projects

POTTSTOWN, Jan. 19 – Following advocacy from state Rep. Paul Friel, D-Chester, the Commonwealth Financing Authority recently awarded grants to help fund eight projects in the 26th District that concern local water supply systems, sewer systems, or stormwater management.

The grants total approximately $2,215,619:

Municipal Authority of the Borough of Elverson

  • Sewage Treatment Plant Upgrade & Expansion Project: $1,000,000
  • Sanitary Sewer Collection System Rehabilitation Project: $156,627

Phoenixville Borough

  • Phoenixville Water Treatment Plant - High Service Pump Project: $313,066

South Coventry Township

  • Ridglea Wastewater System - Influent Screen Replacement Project: $72,580
  • Ridglea Water System - Storage Tank Repair & Rehabilitation Project: $68,324

East Pikeland Township

  • Meadow Lane Sewer Extension: $182,200

North Coventry Municipal Authority

  • South Pottstown Area Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation Project: $212,193
  • South Pottstown Area Water Service Line Replacement Project: $211,629

“These projects are vital in protecting public health and our water supply, but they’re extremely costly for municipalities to afford on their own,” Friel said. “State investments into our community's infrastructure help our local officials and authorities secure our wellbeing for years to come.”

The grants come from two different categories of American Rescue Plan Act funding. The Sewage Treatment Plant Upgrade & Expansion Project in Elverson will be funded by the H2O PA - Water Supply, Sanitary Sewer & Storm Water Program. All the other projects’ funding will come from the PA Small Water & Sewer Program.
