Friel applauds PennDOT awarding contract to local company

HARRISBURG, March 21 – Rep. Paul Friel, D-Chester, announced today that PennDOT has awarded a $941,319 contract to Marino Corporation, a construction company based in Montgomery County.

Per PennDOT, as the contract awardee, Marino Corporation will construct a dedicated left-turn lane from eastbound Route 23 to Starr Street to increase traffic flow and reduce congestion.

“I’m incredibly happy about this news, on two levels,” Friel said. “One, this contract has been awarded to a local company, Marino, thereby securing future employment for some of our residents. And two, this work will bring much-needed improvements to our roadways, enhancing safety and efficiency.

“I applaud PennDOT for awarding the contract to a local company that’s more than worthy of receiving it.”

Rep. Melissa Shusterman, who serves the 157th Legislative District in Chester County, also applauded the funding, saying, “This is a very busy intersection along Rt. 23, and the congestion is significant during rush hour. Adding a dedicated turn lane and modernization will greatly improve safety for drivers and pedestrians, and I thank PennDOT for this grant so we can continue to improve our communities.”

Construction by Marino Corporation is slated to begin this spring, with work expected to be completed by the fall.

The project is being financed with 100 percent federal funds.
