Friel announces $1,850,046 in state grants

HARRISBURG, March 16 – State Rep. Paul Friel, D-Chester, announced today that Chester County will receive more than $1.8 million in state grants that will benefit local projects and organizations.

“This substantial influx of money will strengthen our community in a variety of ways,” Friel said. “We need things like safer roads, places for people to gather, recreational opportunities, and fire departments that are well-equipped to aid the community. These grants address all those components of a great, safe community.

“I’m happy to help bring this funding back home and will continue to fight for grant money that will make Chester County stronger.”

Grant recipients and projects being funded include:

  • Phoenixville Borough: $600,000 for roadway construction at the intersection of Bridge and Starr streets (SR0029) located in Phoenixville, Chester County.
  • Phoenixville Borough: $750,000 for the construction of a recreational gathering area located in Phoenixville near the French Creek Trail.
  • East Coventry Township: $545,327 for improvements to Tow Path Park located in East Coventry Township, Chester County.
  • East Coventry Township: $58,305 on behalf of Ridge Fire Co. for the purchase of a
    Utility Terrain Vehicle and trailer to be used in East Coventry Township, Chester County.

The grants were awarded as part of two state programs: the Multimodal Transportation Fund and the Local Share Account Program.
