ERIE, DEC. 13 – A state grant will help put more cops on the street in Millcreek Township Representative Ryan Bizzarro announced Wednesday. Millcreek Township was awarded $10,000 from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) as a recruitment incentive to help the police department hire and train new officers. “Only 20 police departments in Pennsylvania made the cut in this highly competitive first round, and I was glad to see Millcreek Township on that list,” Bizzarro said. “I’m a strong advocate for them in Harrisburg, and their professionalism is noticed statewide.” This $10,000 grant announcement builds on recent state support for Millcreek Township Police. In 2022, Bizzarro help secure more than a million dollars for the department, including funding for gun violence prevention efforts and a new armored vehicle for special operations. “Millcreek Police officers have our back day and night, answering the call when we need them most,” Bizzarro said. “I have their backs, and I will always do what I can to make sure they get the resources they need to keep us safe.” The PCCD recruitment incentive funding will eventually distribute a total of $14 million statewide. This new funding was part of the commitment Governor Shapiro and Lt. Governor Austin Davis made to support local law enforcement and address the staffing shortages statewide. “Being a police officer is a tough Read more

“More than 100,000 pedestrians and bicyclists are injured in U.S. roadway crashes annually,” Policy Committee Chairman Ryan Bizzarro said. “We need to do a better job of protecting children, families, walkers, runners and cyclists. Improving the safety of walking Main Streets also makes sense from an economic standpoint, since businesses thrive in pedestrian-oriented streets. The cost of keeping walkways paved and safe pales in comparison to the constant paving and upkeep needed for streets with heavy automobile use, and it’s why streets designed for pedestrians offer a higher return on public investment than vehicle-oriented streets.” Read more
HARRISBURG, Oct. 19 – Members of the bipartisan, bicameral Animal Protection Caucus applauded the final passage of a bill that will help bolster Pennsylvania’s Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement (BDLE). Both the House and Senate approved S.B. 746 , legislation introduced by Sen. Elder Vogel (R-Beaver, Butler, Lawrence) that would enable the online sale of dog licenses in all counties, increase penalties for civil and criminal violations of Pennsylvania’s Dog Law, and reasonably increase dog license and kennel inspection fees. “These updates will help provide much-needed revenue and support for our dog law enforcement officers. This bill has been a long time coming, but there’s still more work to be done,” said Rep. Ryan Bizzarro (D-Erie), co-chair of the Animal Protection Caucus and Chairman of the House Majority Policy Committee. “The Animal Protection Caucus will continue to work to strengthen our dog laws, provide price transparency for the sale of dogs, and pass Victoria’s Law.” The Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement is charged with enforcing state laws on kennels, harboring dangerous dogs, and preventing dogs from running at large. The BDLE has been operating in a deficit for several years, preventing the agency from hiring a new warden and additional staff. “As co-chair of the Animal Protection Caucus, I fully support these updates to Pennsylvania’s Dog Law that ensure funding for important protections and Read more
