State Rep. Joe Webster announces $1.6 million in state grants to enhance local recreation, conservation, and community spaces

HARRISBURG, Nov. 13 – State Rep. Joe Webster announced today that Pennsylvania communities will benefit from a total of 24 state grants, amounting to nearly $8.2 million, awarded through the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources' Community Conservation Partnerships Program to support projects that enhance outdoor recreation, conserve natural spaces, and foster sustainable development in communities across the Commonwealth.

In Webster’s legislative district, a total of $1.6 million in grants will support three impactful projects:

  • Pennsylvania Horticultural Society - $1 million: This grant will support efforts to coordinate urban and community forestry initiatives in the city of Philadelphia and southeastern Pennsylvania. Activities include tree planting and stewardship programs that engage communities in Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties, fostering environmental sustainability and community resilience.

  • Lower Providence Township - $242,900: Funding will go toward the rehabilitation and further development of Redtail Park in Lower Providence Township, Montgomery County. The project encompasses renovating the parking area, constructing a comfort station, adding pedestrian walkways, and developing an internal loop trail. Additional improvements will ensure ADA accessibility, install utilities, and enhance landscaping.

  • Upper Providence Township - $362,500: This grant will support the development of Taylor Park in Upper Providence Township, Montgomery County. Planned work includes the construction of an internal loop trail and parking area, ensuring ADA accessibility, adding landscaping, and installing signage and other related site improvements.

“These grants will bring tremendous benefits to our communities by enhancing recreational spaces, promoting conservation, and creating a healthier environment for residents to enjoy,” said Webster. “Investments like these help make our neighborhoods more vibrant, sustainable, and connected. I am grateful for DCNR’s support and look forward to seeing these projects enrich our region.”

The C2P2 program provides grants and technical assistance to municipalities, land conservancies, and non-profit organizations to plan, acquire, and develop a variety of recreational, park, and conservation facilities. Supported project areas include greenways and trails, watersheds, heritage sites, and critical habitats. The program’s initiatives align with DCNR’s mission to protect water quality, boost tourism, improve physical and mental health, and strengthen community ties through enhanced green spaces.

DCNR’s C2P2 program is instrumental in advancing Pennsylvania’s conservation efforts, supporting projects that preserve historic resources, protect natural habitats, and bolster local economies. The grants not only enhance the quality of life for Pennsylvanians but also create lasting environmental and economic impacts across the state.
