Montco Dems applaud $5 million in state funding for transportation upgrades
HARRISBURG, Aug. 20 – State Reps. Matt Bradford, Joe Webster and Liz Hanbidge announced $5 million in competitive state Multimodal Transportation Funds have been awarded for three improvement projects in Montgomery County.
The following Montco municipalities received funding:
- Whitpain Township – $1,463,300 for installation of a traffic signal at Skippack Pike and School Road and other intersection improvements.
- West Norriton Township – $547,166 for signal upgrades at the intersection of Marshall Street and Forrest Avenue.
- Upper Providence Township – $3 million for the construction of a roundabout and a bridge replacement at Dreibelbis Road, Black Rock Road and Second Avenue.
“This funding will go a long way to make our local roads safer in West Norriton and Whitpain townships,” said Bradford. “I’m grateful to the Shapiro administration for supporting our communities’ efforts to improve these two intersections to keep drivers and pedestrians safe.”
“I’ve heard from many constituents about the traffic on Skippack Pike, so I’m happy to help bring funding home to remedy this issue,” Hanbidge said. “Ensuring smooth and efficient traffic flow is not just a convenience -- it's a hallmark of a well-managed community and essential for our residents and our businesses. I hope to continue working with PennDOT and my colleagues on remedying traffic issues throughout Montgomery County that impact us all.”
"Securing this $3 million for the construction of a roundabout and the replacement of the bridge at Dreibelbis Road, Black Rock Road and Second Avenue will not only improve traffic flow but also contribute to the overall quality of life in our community by keeping routes safe for drivers,” said Webster. "With the school year quickly approaching and an increase of traffic on the roads, I am proud to support improvements that take significant strides in enhancing the safety, accessibility, and overall infrastructure of our community."
The infrastructure projects are part of a broader effort by the Shapiro administration to enhance transportation systems across Pennsylvania, highlighted by Gov. Josh Shapiro's recent unveiling of a $51 million investment from the Multimodal Transportation Fund, targeting 66 key projects in 32 counties.
The Multimodal Transportation Fund provides financial assistance to municipalities, businesses and public transportation agencies across the Commonwealth. By investing in local infrastructure, the program helps to revitalize communities, improve pedestrian safety and support transit initiatives.
