HARRISBURG, Jan. 11 – State Rep. Napoleon Nelson, D-Montgomery, today announced his committee assignments for the 2021-22 legislative session.
Nelson, who was elected in November to represent the 154th Legislative District, has been assigned to the following House committees:
“I could not be more excited to get started on the committee work necessary to move our commonwealth forward,” Nelson said. “Because of the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing political strife throughout this country, people are hurting physically, financially and emotionally. It is a delicate time, and that means it’s perfectly appropriate to think differently, to work collectively, and to brainstorm ideas that put people first.
“I hope to be able to fight for our seniors and their abilities to age in the right place, to fight for fair tax policies for our residents and small businesses, and to invest in our youth, the future of our communities and society.”
Before being sworn in earlier this month to begin his service as a representative, Nelson served on the Cheltenham School Board, where he was chairman of the Finance and Personnel committees and also served as board president. In 2017, he was elected Cheltenham’s finance officer, at which time he stepped down from the school board but was appointed to the board of trustees for Montgomery County Community College.
“My past experiences have prepared me for these new assignments, and I am very happy and extremely grateful to our House Democratic leadership for entrusting me with the responsibilities that go along with these committee assignments,” said Nelson, who holds a bachelor’s degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Nelson is a finance professional with experience in investment analysis, planning and corporate strategy. He founded Market Literacy Project, a venture that created financial literacy materials and lesson plans to help students develop skills to be better consumers, producers, creators and business leaders.
