HARRISBURG, June 24 – Legislation ( H.B. 2426 ) introduced by state Reps. Pat Gallagher, D-Phila., and Greg Scott, D-Montgomery, that would explicitly ban license plate flipping devices was approved today by the House Transportation Committee. License plate flipping devices enable a license plate on a vehicle to be changed to another license plate either manually or electronically. When affixed to vehicles, these devices can be used to conceal a license plate, modify its appearance, or switch one license plate to another. Drivers can use these devices to evade identification for purposes such as avoiding tolls, reckless driving, or even more nefarious criminal activity. “There are currently many ambiguities in our state’s law that allow individuals to use these devices as loopholes to get out of making payments they owe,” Gallagher said. “My city of Philadelphia recently took action on this issue by prohibiting these devices in the city, and now it’s time for the entire state of Pennsylvania to follow suit.” “House Bill 2426 is a significant step toward ensuring accountability on our roads,” Scott said. “License plates are crucial for vehicle identification, and it's essential that our laws explicitly prohibit the use of license plate flipping devices that allow drivers to evade this identification. HARRISBURG, June 3 – The House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee convened a critical public hearing on state Rep. Greg Scott’s H.B. 2238 today. This legislation was introduced in April and is designed to eliminate the use of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, more commonly referred to as PFAS, in household products. Scott noted that PFAS exposure has been linked to medical problems such as cancer, immune system suppression, high cholesterol, pregnancy induced hypertension, liver damage, increased risk of thyroid disease and infertility. PFAS chemicals are found in items such as firefighting foam, cookware, dental floss and feminine hygiene products, and are referred to as “forever chemicals” because they do not break down in the environment. The hearing today included six testifiers, ranging from people representing environmental activist groups to higher education faculty. Speakers urged the bills’ passage from both human health and environmental preservation perspectives. House Bill 2238 has 30 co-sponsors, including Reps. HARRISBURG, March 26 – State Rep. Greg Scott, D-Montgomery, today announced the approval of a $435,312 state grant that will be used to reconfigure access roads to the Plymouth Meeting Mall. “This project exemplifies our commitment to progress and infrastructure improvement for all who call this area home. We're not just building roads; we're paving the way for safer, more efficient transportation, and enhancing the connectivity of our community.,” said Scott. The Multimodal Transportation Fund from the Commonwealth Financing Authority provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to the residents of the commonwealth. Funds can be used for transportation asset development, rehabilitation, streetscape enhancement, lighting, sidewalk improvement, pedestrian safety, connectivity, and transit-oriented development in existing communities. PHILADELPHIA, March 6 – The House Majority Policy Committee gathered testimony from minimum wage earners and public policy experts during a hearing Wednesday as the push to finally increase the wage in Pennsylvania continues. The hearing was hosted by Rep. Roni Green (D-Phila.) at SEIU Local 668 in Philadelphia. It comes after House Democrats passed legislation in June that would increase the state’s minimum wage to $15 by 2026. However, that bill is still awaiting action in the GOP-controlled Senate. “Raising the minimum wage in Pennsylvania is an important and timely topic. It has the potential to improve the lives of many with a fair and livable income,” Green said. “Increasing the minimum wage will reduce poverty, promote economic growth, and provide a financial sense of security for workers. Josh Shapiro and the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency following the inaugural meeting of Indigent Defense Advisory Committee Monday. The Indigent Defense Advisory Committee will develop statewide standards and a statewide funding system for indigent defense services -- providing legal representation for those who cannot afford it on their own. “Last week we heard from Governor Shapiro as he proposed his 2024-25 budget . NORRISTOWN, Jan. 31- State Rep. Greg Scott will be hosting Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program clinics to assist qualifying residents in filing their 2024 rebate application forms. “As an advocate for the expansion of the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program, I’m extending our office services across the county to provide our community of seniors relief from the increasing costs of housing,” Scott said. “In hosting a series of clinics during the coming months, we’re hoping to help all eligible constituents apply to the relief rebate program before June 30th.” Eligible applicants for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program include: • Adults age 65 and older. • Widows and widowers age 50 and older. • People with disabilities age 18 and older. Following the 2024 Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program expansion, the adjusted income limit income for homeowners and renters is $45,000. Applicants only need to count half of their Social Security income when applying. In addition to increasing the income limites, the maximum rebate amount increased to $1,000. For verification purposes, applicants are required to bring documents containing all sources of income. Homeowners must provide receipted tax bills for 2023.
