Rep. Greg Scott November 27, 2024
NORRISTOWN, Nov. 27 — Last night, State Rep. Greg Scott, D-Montgomery, and Norristown Council President Tom Lepera brought together local families and community organizations at the 9th Annual Thanksgiving Resource Fair to address food insecurity and provide holiday support.
The event, held from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at Oak Street Health in Norristown, featured the distribution of 300 turkeys, Thanksgiving meal kits, winter clothing, 1,400 diapers, and more to ensure that families could enjoy a safe holiday.
The fair was a collaborative effort between Scott’s office, Lepera, Jefferson Einstein Montgomery Community Outreach Department, Misfits Heroes Inc., Norristown Men in Excellence and Oak Street Health, along with other local partners.
In addition to the turkey giveaway, attendees had access to vital resources, including information about food assistance programs, housing support and health services.
“Our Thanksgiving resource fair was about more than just providing meals,” said Scott. “It was about coming together as a community to support those in need. It was apparent that our community has an unprecedented need for food and support, and I am honored to have been able to give back for the ninth year with Councilman Lepera and the other partners.”
Hundreds of turkeys and Thanksgiving fixings were distributed, offering families a chance to celebrate the holiday with dignity and joy.
Magisterial District Judge Hakim Jones, president of Men in Excellence, shared his gratitude for the partnership:
“Our organization has been hosting its annual turkey drive since 2012. We’re thankful for this year’s collaboration with Representative Scott’s office and several community partners. There’s nothing better than working together to assist those in need around the holiday season.”
Lepera and Scott have been partnering to distribute Thanksgiving turkeys for nine years and counting.
"It's always a pleasure to work alongside Representative Scott, especially during the holiday season, to support our neighbors in need,” said Lepera. “This marks the ninth year of coming together for the Thanksgiving Turkey and Resource Fair, and the continued demand highlights the great need in our community. I’m proud to be part of an event that not only provides meals but also connects families with vital resources to help them thrive."
Jefferson Einstein Montgomery’s Community Outreach Department supplied 28 boxes of diapers, 100 turkeys and support kits including winter clothing.
Christine (Chris) Berkowitz, Jefferson Einstein Montgomery’s Community outreach coordinator & vice chair, said, “What an incredible community event! It exceeded all expectations, with so many people coming out to take part. The turnout was overwhelming — within just an hour, we had distributed all our supplies. It’s a powerful display of the growing need in our community and the importance of events like this to make a meaningful impact.”
Scott emphasized the growing needs of the community.
"This is not a time to stand on the sidelines – we have to face this issue head-on and get in the game. Events like this highlight the critical importance of coming together to support one another. While I’m grateful we could serve so many families, it’s clear that we must continue working toward long-term solutions to address hunger and ensure everyone has access to the resources they need."
Scott said he remains committed to addressing food insecurity and other critical needs in Norristown. For information about upcoming events or assistance with state-related issues, residents can contact Scott’s office at 484-685-3494.
