READING, June 9 – State Reps. Manny Guzman and Mark Rozzi announced Reading School District has been approved for a $150,000 state grant through the Department of Community and Economic Development.
“As a former member of the Reading School Board, I’m well aware of the inequities in funding schools such as Reading face,” Guzman said. “It’s a problem that exists not just in our hometown but across our state, and while I’m working with my colleagues to correct this problem and calling on leaders in the General Assembly to do the same, it’s a relief to see state funds going to a quality program that provides teachers and students with information they can use to improve and grow.”
The grant provides Reading Area School District with the funds needed to use the Edmentum Exact Path Program, finely tuned computer-adaptive assessments of student learning that is personalized with state standards.
“This grant will allow Reading to implement a new program that includes personalized learning pathways geared for all types of students from kindergarten through 12th grade,” Rozzi said. “It will allow instructors to target the needs of students by learning the strengths of their students as well as seeing where students need support. It’s rewarding to learn this proven program will be used in Reading, after it has already been utilized successfully in public schools in Pittsburgh and New York City.”
